Education and teaching quality is an important criterion to evaluate the success of a school.But,many higher education institutions in China consider achievements in scientific research as the single indicator in judging the faculty's performance and research capacity is becoming the highest measurement index in evaluating college faculty's professional level and students ' academic literacy.This technical orientation in measuring standard poses a detrimental impact on the improvement of school-running level,teaching quality and teacher's specialization.There are various reasons behind this phenomenon: For the university administrators,due to the popularization in education,the number of college students is soaring,therefore,ensuring the enrollment rate and employment rate reach to the rigid index and maintaining the teaching quality and reputation of university are such issues that deserve their refection.In terms of the individuals,because of the high teacher-student ratio,most faculties tend to spend most time in scientific research rather than teaching,which causes the decline in their teaching ability.What's more,such factors as limited research capability,fragmented knowledge that delivered to the students and unsystematic instruction also lead to the bad performance in their teaching quality.Theory of scholarship of teaching is newly proposed by Ernest L Boyer,who is unsatisfied with the “Valuing scientific research over teaching” concept in the higher education worldand aims to reiterate the purpose of establishment of higher education and the real mission of university faculty so as to improve the status of teaching in teaching management,enhance teaching skills and strike a balance between the roles of teaching and scientific research in university's development.In such a way,it is possible to relieve the realistic difficulties in the teaching and management work and boost the quality and school-running level of universities in China.Firstly,this paper has made an initial analysis about the origin,connotation and characteristic about the theory of scholarship of teaching.Then,requirements on administrators and subordinates in university teaching management posed by the scholarship of teaching have been discussed.What's more,the realistic difficulty about “Valuing scientific research over teaching” is pointed out and analyzed from the perspective of scholarship of teaching theory.Finally,based on the scholarship of teaching theory and its implementation in China's colleges and universities,some suggestions,which are characterized by their localization,materialization,pertinence and operability,are made to propel the pace of teaching status ' s promotion and improvement of teaching quality in an effective way and solve the problem about imbalance between teaching and scientific research status.
