The book "Exploring well-being in schools: A Guide to Making Children's Lives more Fulfilling" written by British education philosopher John White describes "what a school is and is for" , he thinks that school education should take well-being as the ultimate value pursuit,and help students live a meaningful and flourishing life,meanwhile the education workers should set up the ambition of teaching for well-being.In order to realize the goal of well-being, the education workers first need to clarify the essential connotation of the concept of "well-being", after all, since the concept of"well-being" was produced, it has been a controversial concept,people have the different understandings of "well-being" . John white clarifies the concept of "well-being", he points out that "well-being" is not the satisfaction of need,success or happiness, but the meaning that people autonomously participate in activities and success. According to white's understanding of "well-being" and "flourishing life" , the education workers need to implement a series of supporting measures in education practice,especially in the education process, student management and student assessment , namely, first, in the process of education, they should attach importance to the value of the activity, second,in the student management, they should reduce the unjustified force,third, in terms of student assessment, they should require more diversified ways of evaluation. John white thinks, only in this way, students can achieve "a flourishing life".But according to John white's viewpoints, we will find that the current universities is totally different,and even opposite, in terms of education target, on the one hand,university forgets the goal of "well-being" and aims to teach students knowledge as much as possible, as a education belief, on the other hand,university misunderstands the well-being,it argues that success is the highest goal and students should exchange bitterness for well-being in the future. In the education process, university emphasizes the subjects and ignores the value of activities, separating education from the student's"life world". In student management, university emphasizes force more than freedom and entity more than personality,it causes students to a double loss of negative liberty and positive liberty. In terms of student assessment, under the influence of bureaucracy that seeks high efficiency, university makes student assessment attach great importance to the summative evaluation,especially the quantitative examination. In this kind of education mode, university not only fails to achieve the students "flourishing life", but goes to the opposite of "flourishing life", although the students are busy all day long, but they are worried at the same time, although they may be excited because of success, but feel senseless, although they look forward to the beautiful tomorrow, but it seems to be on the way, this is the alienation of university education. So we must reform the current college education,with the help of John White' s viewpoints. Specifically, the education goal should return to the "flourishing life", the real success and well-being, the education process should return to the "life world", the student management should take "human orientation" as the value pursuit, the student assessment should be comprehensive and objective. Only by this can university education make a wisdom-oriented man out of a knowledge-oriented man.
