After the Second World War, all countries of the world were severely weakened except the United States. A large number of skilled personnel were cultivated in German by "Dual System", which enabled German's economy to take off. Therefore, the important role of vocational education for the economy was proven once again. In order to solve the problems of skilled labor shortage and revitalize the economy, UK intended to reform the vocational education mode based on the experience of the Germany.Modern apprenticeship has been carried out in UK since 1993. Law, management,financing, training and evaluation five aspects are combined as operation mechanism of modern apprenticeship, some achievements and problems were made as well in the process of reform. Research on modern apprenticeship in UK is helpful to solve the practical problems produced in modern apprenticeship reform of China. Five parts divided are as follows:Part ?, the history of apprenticeship developing from the traditional form to the modern pattern in UK was sorted out in the present study from the perspective of historical inheritance to introduce the background of modern apprenticeship and the general profile of its reform.Part ?, the study concluded mechanism for the successful implementation and operation of modem apprenticeship, including legal safeguard, management coordination,funding, implementation and evaluation.Part ?,a typical cases, "Charted Management Degree Apprenticeship",concerning with the apprentice training in business management industry was selected to illustrate the implementation of modern apprenticeship in specific businesses.Part ?, the comprehensive evaluation of the modern apprenticeship and the summarization of effects achieved since the reform, such as the expansion of apprenticeship scale, the elevation of participant satisfaction, the appreciation of personnel training and the creation of economic and social benefit, were covered in this paper. In addition, the challenges facing the modern apprenticeship were analyzed from four aspects, including the percentage completion, the training quality,employer-domination and the participation of small and medium enterprises.Part ?,the features of the modem apprenticeship was summed up manifesting as the strengthening of legal system, employer-focus, certification interconnected and the attention to enterprises.Part ?, some specific advices like strengthening legal construction, highlighting the leading role of enterprises, standardizing the evaluation and certification and intensifying the participation of enterprises were put forward in this study based on the status in quo of the modern apprenticeship reform and the problems produced in the pilot reform in China.
