The apprenticeship is a kind of ancient vocational education system, and has been jot down in the Warring States Period of China, ancient Egypt, ancient Greece and ancient Rome. In mid-18th century, the apprenticeship once declined, but in late 20th century, under the influence of lifelong learning and competence-based thoughts in education, for the sake of meeting the needs of present socialization production, Euro-American economically developed countries created modern apprenticeship on the basis of combining the advantages of traditional apprenticeship into the ones of modern vocational education system. Therefore, the apprenticeship had been revived.Along with the entry into the WTO, China surely comes under attack of economic globalization. In order to enhance its international economic competitiveness and improve Chinese labors'competitive advantages in the international labor market, the traditional mode of knowledge-based vocational education must be reformed to improve Chinese labors'professional ability and professional quality to face intensive international competition. The writer thinks that it's very necessary to develop the mode of the apprenticeship vocational education during the period of vocational education, especially of secondary vocational education in China. It is decided by improving our youth's whole quality and population total quality and meeting the economic development and the social needs. According to the present vocational education in China, the writer gives some suggestions on carrying on and perfecting the apprenticeship in Chinese vocational schools.
