Under the current education systems and evaluation standards of China, the students of Senior Three as the special group are facing the fierce competition of the national college entrance exam and undergoing tremendous pressure.Preparing for the exam becomes their core of life in the last year of senior high school. The 21 st century is an era of information and large quantities of talents who possess innovative consciousness and practical competence are needed.Consequently, the traditional teaching mode of China which is still teacher-centered is severely challenged. In this kind of classroom, the students are just in the position of passive acceptance of knowledge, lacking of construction and understanding of knowledge. Therefore, developing students' abilities of autonomic learning and inquiry become the central issues of research for domestic experts and teachers.Problem-based Learning(PBL)is a new type of teaching mode which starts from the real problems in the complex world. It is learner-centered and in this mode teachers create certain context where students are encouraged to generate questions autonomously, analyze them, and finally solve the problems. Also,in this process students are guided to construct knowledge frameworks.According to the real situation of a senior high school in J County, this thesis based on the learning theories of Constructivism and Humanism focuses on the application of PBL mode in Geography instruction of Senior Three.Through questionnaires about the students' attitude towards PBL and interviews with teachers, the author puts forward some suggestions on the application of PBL mode in the Geography teaching of Senior Three which can be summarized as following:First of all,the PBL teaching mode can ensure the dominant position of studentsand is real student-centered.In this teaching mode, the lively classroom can be constructed which allows students to construct their own geographical knowledge systems in the relative harmonious learning atmosphere.Secondly,it can be concluded from the implementation of PBL mode in the classroom that the application of this model can cultivate students' comprehensive qualities. It can not only increase students' interest in learning Geography and help them construct knowledge actively, but can also develop students' abilities of thinking and solving problems independently, cooperation and communication as well as expression.Thirdly, the PBL model is beneficial for the change of teachers' roles.Students' roles are much more highlighted after the change of teachers' roles from dominators to guiders, which is in line with the new trend of contemporary education development. Finally, the implementation of PBL mode in Senior Three Geography is a journey which abides by the cognitive principles of high school students, starts from the geography in life and constructs the systems of geographical knowledge in the senior high school though geography in life.
