It is a long time since English became a compulsory course in primary school.With the development of the new curriculum reformation,people are paying more and more attention to the cultivation of interest in primary school students? English learning,so as to promote the long-term development of students.The physical and mental development of primary school students has its own particularity;they are active,curious but lack of lasting attention,easily distracted by external factors.Therefore,the use of games in primary school English teaching is one of the effective strategies to stimulate primary school students? interest in learning and improve their learning enthusiasm.At present,inadequate understanding of the role of games in classroom teaching has resulted in the poor game application and poor teaching effect.The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the cases of game teaching in primary school English classroom,to explore some practical methods of game application,to help more primary school English teachers understand the concept of game teaching.This study first clarifies the related concepts,types and main characteristics of the game and the game teaching,and synthesizes the domestic and foreign research,taking Confucius? theory of “happy learning and teaching”,Dewey?s theory of “learn from doing” and the theory of second language acquisition as the theoretical foundation.This analysis uses the methods of classroom observation,case analysis,interview and questionnaire survey,and analyzes the data collection and result analysis,and finds out the problems of game application in primary school English teaching.The main problems are as follows: too much attention is paid to the form in the design of the game without consideration of the teaching objectives;game content is deviated from the reality,the language context is not real;the rules of the game are too complicated,too difficult for primary school students;teachers? classroom instruction is not clear;evaluation is monotonous.Analysis of these problems shows that the main reason lies in the following two aspects,first,teachers lack the knowledge of game application;second,the implementation and evaluation of game application are misused.Based on this,the author tries to provide some suggestions and measures on the game application.Teachers should enrich themselves with the teaching theories and make very careful study of the teaching materials;the design should take the teaching objectives into consideration;the game content should be in the realistic situation;the roles of the game should be easy and clear;teachers? classroom instruction should be clear,effective and instructive;classroom order should be kept in good control;teacher classroom evaluation should reflect the diversity and differences.Hope these suggestions and measures could stimulate the interest of students? language learning and improve the teaching quality in the primary school English class.
