Marc-Antoine Jullien de Paris (1775—1848) is a distinguished comparative educationist in France and well-known in the world. He is known as "father of comparative education", because he pioneered the scientific comparative education research. His masterpiece of Plan and Preliminary Views for a Work on Comparative Education which was published in 1817, marks the birth of comparative education. For the development of comparative education, he has made unique contributions, and has produced a far-reaching impact.This thesis chiefly introduces Jullien's life and works related, and reveals the process of him changing from a keen political activist to a comparative educationist. Under the complex time background, natrual science has made rapid progress. This thesis analyses the background.philosophical foundation and educational foundation of the ideology of Jullien's comparative education, and focuses on his ideology. The ideology of Jullien's comparative educaiton includes the subject, the purpose, the contents, the methods, the organizations and the journal of comparative research. The purpose and methods of research are the most representative in the ideology, so they are especially stressed in the thesis. Jullien thinks the basic purpose of comparative research is learning advanced experience from other countries and improving the social and moral conditions. On research methods, he has introduced positivist method into comparative education research, and has set a new direction of comparative education research paradigm. There are many evaluations of the ideology of Jullien's comparative education, so on this basis the thesis makes comprehensive and objective evaluation to the influence, the contributions and the limitations of the ideology of Jullien's comparative education.
