Determined by the special conditions of China, local literature has long occupied a leading place in the field of literature, while urban literature only receives attention lately.In the history of Chinese literature, most literary works merely take the city as their writing backgrounds, and only few specially portray the city itself and its life and show its spirit. Therefore, the research findings of urban literature is not as abundant as those of local literature, and its literary value and educational value have not been fully discovered yet.With the development of urbanization, the city has become a common subject of literature. The study of urban literature has gradually become a hot topic in the academic realm since the number of urban literature is increasing. The advance of urbanization also changes students'life and thoughts dramatically, and they are being changed by the city,or will be changed by the city. As the carrier of language culture, how Chinese textbooks reflect and adapt to the evolution of both urban literature and the city, together with how they approach to students' life become important topics in the field of Chinese teaching.In this thesis, the author will make a systematic study on the urban literary works in the Chinese textbooks of middle school (taking those of the people's education press, the Su Education Edition and the Hubei Education Edition as examples). It is divided into there parts: introduction, main body and conclusion. The introduction part summarizes the background, meaning, technique and contents of the research, as well as makes a literature review of the existing researches. The main body is divided into three chapters,which primarily introduce the development of urban literature, analyze the characteristics of these works' selection process and literary significance, and explore the teaching strategies of urban literature in Chinese books. Combined with the current situation of urban literature's development and curriculum reform, the conclusion makes the corresponding reflection on the selection and teaching of urban literary works in middle school.The first chapter introduces in detail the concept, development history and educational value of urban literature. Firstly, it defines the concept of urban literature,differentiates urban literature and city literature, and paraphrases the urban literary works shown in Chinese language textbooks. Secondly, it introduces the the development and evolution process of China urban literature from the view of literary history, having an overall grasp of different dynasties' achievements on urban literature and the features of urban literature. Lastly, it explores the value of urban literature in the field of Chinese education.The second chapter studies specially on the selection of urban literary works shownin Chinese textbooks of middle school. First of all,it sorts out and counts urban literary works in Chinese books of middle school (taking textbooks published by the People's Education Press, the JiangSu Education Edition and the Hubei Education Edition as examples). Next, it analyzes the characteristics of the layout of urban literature works in the Chinese books of middle school, and reflects the existing problems. Finally,it analyzes the text content and form features of urban literature works in the Chinese books of middle school.The third chapter probes into the teaching methods of urban literature works in the Chinese textbooks of middle school. First, the author thinks that the urban attribute and writing background can not be neglected in the teaching of literature works, thus, the author puts forward the strategy that the teaching should be based on the city, and understand human beings,as well as reflect on the society. Then,as a kind of literary text with strong elite consciousness, urban literature needs to be interpreted deeply, and the students should be guided to adopt the comparative reading and multiple interpretation in the teaching. Besides, considering the popularization of urban literature, its teaching should contact the practice of real life, inspire students' life experience, enable them to resonate with the themes of these selected works, so as to achieve the real interaction between students and texts. At last, it takes Autumn in Peiping as an example to demonstrate the teaching methods of urban literature.
