A Comparative Study Of Master And Doctoral Dissertations About Pearl S.buck In China And America

As a special research method of information science,bibliometrics mainly uses the way of literature statistics and mathematical analysis to analyze the chapter informations and reveal the macroscopic law of literature quantitatively.With the rapid development of digital information technology,the applications of computer and network are expanded,and the boundaries of disciplines are broken,it makes more innovative requirements for bibliometric research.As a key technology of semantic web,ontology which has great advantages in the expansion of information resources becomes an important technical means of resource organization.This paper makes a comparative study of bibliometrics based on the construction of ontology databases which cover the master and doctoral dissertations about Pearl S.Buck from China and the United States.We used the methods of literature research,comparison,induction and expert investigation to extract the core framework of the literature knowledge,and defined the ontology framework with the help of experts in the field.There are three parts of the ontology database: the basic literature informations,the research objects and the research directions of dissertations.Those parts integrate the basic literature informations and content resources of the dissertations,and help to make deeper knowledge mining.After using the semi-automatic ontology construction tool Protégé to model the ontology database and fill instances,we select the OntoGraf visual map to present the results of the comparison about the Pearl S.Buck theme in two countries.This paper makes a comprehensive analysis from time,institutions,majors and research content.Analyze the panorama and specific details about the time distribution of two countries,and try to explore the distribution of all research organizations include the core,then contrast annual situation.From the perspective of majors,compare the overall condition and core research majors.In the content,show similarities and differences between the dissertations from China and America,select the core research object and expand the concrete details of the two countries' literature,then compare their specific research directions.This paper explores the construction of the ontology database in the comparative study of bibliometrics.Choose the master and doctoral dissertations about Pearl S.Buck in China and America as examples,we hope that this study can inspire further research in this area.
