Geographical disciplines often use a lot of written information and geographical charts to describe the geographical and spatial structure,the relationship between geographical things and the process of development and change.How to obtain and interpret the effective information in geographical materials is an important issue for teachers and students.From the analysis of college entrance examinations geography in recent years,almost all the questions are based on a large number of text and text materials as background material and entry point,candidates can obtain the effective information needed for the reconciliation to read the answer,and analyze the extracted information.Therefore,the optimization of teachers’ training methods of this ability,to improve students’ learning strategies in order to better enable students to acquire and interpret geographic information methods and skills,and improve students’ ability to acquire and interpret geographic information,is particularly urgent and key.This study attempts to make some contribution to the aspect of cultivating students’ ability to acquire and interpret geographic information,hoping to help students improve their ability to learn geography and their geography grades,and provide frontline geography teachers with some guidance for teaching methods at the same time.Using documentation method,field investigation and Case analysis,based on modern educational theory and the previous research results,Combined with my teaching practice,I did a questionnaire of Sophomores of NO.1 high school in Pengzhou on the ability of acquiring and interpreting geographic information,and made some in-depth interviews with several teachers.Having a deep understanding of the present situation of the students’ ability,existing problems and analyzing its causes,this study comes up with some feasible strategies on cultivating students’ ability to acquire and interpret geographic information.The survey results show that the ability of the students in Pengzhou NO.1 high school to obtain and interpret geographic information is generally weak,mainly the following problems: the information obtained is not enough comprehensive;Error in reading information process;The interpretation of the information cannot be correctly described and analyzed.The reasons of students’ lack of ability to obtain and interpret the geographical information are mainly the following: The students didn’t master the basic knowledge well;The students didn’t read the materials carefully;The ability to convert the picture into text is weak;Not mastering the right methods and ways to obtain and interpret geographic information;Thinking mode is not flexible and ability toknowledge transfer is weak;The influence of non intelligence factors,and so on.The cultivation of geographical information ability is not only conducive to the improvement of students’ geographical achievements,but also conducive to the improvement of students’ geographical learning ability.This paper puts forward the cultivation strategy of improving students’ acquisition and interpretation of geographical information from several aspects: building a solid knowledge structure,and accurately grasping the basic knowledge;Strengthen the topic method and skill,develop a good habit of topic;Strengthen the ability of reading,strengthen the ability of text conversion,improve reading ability;Activate the flexibility of thinking and strengthen the ability of knowledge transfer;Stimulate students’ non-intellectual factors and so on.
