In order to adapt to the arrival of the information society, the international federation of ge-ography and The national geographic curriculum standard all pay more attention to cultivate stu-dent’s ability of obtaining and comprehending geographical information, The ordinary high schoolgeography curriculum standard (experiment) also gives top priority top to the ability. In order tocomply with the concept of emphasizing competence in the college entrance examination andAccording to the reality that the poor ability senior arts student have, also for the student’s devel-opment in an all-around way, it’s become very essential to cultivate the ability of senior arts stu-dent to obtain and comprehend geographical information.The main research methods of this thesis are documentation method, questionnaires method,and case analysis. On the basis of previous studies, structure the definition, composition, featureand mental mechanism of the ability. Survey the influencing factor of the ability by means of set-ting the questionnaire which consisting students and teachers version. According to the influencingfactor, we come up with strategies of improving the ability of obtaining and comprehending geo-graphical information. There are six parts in this paper:The first part has traced research background, meaning and research status.The researchbackground mainly from the five aspects to introduce, which are the request of Geography char-acteristics, the international geography education development, geography curriculum standardand the current situation of the poor ability.The second part elaborates theoretical basis of cultivating the ability to obtain and compre-hend geographical information. Mainly expounds from three aspects: educational theory, Educa-tion psychology theories and the new curriculum concept that keep up with the development ofThe Times.The third part analyzes the ability of obtaining and comprehending geographical information,defining the related concepts. I think of this ability has three parts: the skill and intelligence ofobtaining and comprehending geographical information, and metacognitive capability. The char-acteristic of the ability is integrity and hierarchy. The mechanism of the ability is composed of twoparts, which is the mechanism of Cognitive processing and regulation.The fourth part for the questionnaire survey and analysis, Survey the influencing factor of theability by means of setting the questionnaire which consisting students and teachers version. The fifth part proposes a solution of improving the ability of obtaining and comprehendinggeographical information. Give Cultivating principles of the ability and come up with strategies ofimproving the ability by analysis of Survey ObservationThe sixth part is the basic conclusion of this article, and points out the problems existing inthis paper.
