The Survey Research On The Self-worth And Its Influential Factors In The Community Elderly

Objectives To investigate the status and analyze the influential factors of the self-worth in community elderly people.Methods During November 2015 to March 2016,using the cluster sampling method,a total of 1802 elderly aged 60 years and above were recruited from three communities registered in the Fengnan Xugezhuang Street Office of Tangshan city,were investigated with questionnaires,including general information survey of elderly people(gender,age,educational level,marital status,income,financial balance,health insurance,occupation,job category,children's living conditions,take part in group activities,whether continue working and learning,et al),questionnaire of self-worth for adults,Health Promoting Lifestyle Profie-Chinese(HPLP-C),University of California Los Angeles Loneliness Scale-6(USL-6),Social Support between the Elderly and Their Adult Children(SSB),Activity of Daily Living Scale(ADL),Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS).All data were established with EXCEL and analyzed with SPSS17.0 package.Results 1 The status of self-worth in the community elderly people: the score of the elderly's self-worth was(109.22±10.704),the score of family relationship dimension was(27.05±3.971),the score of personal qualities dimension was(21.56±2.189),the score of communications dimension was(17.51±3.425),the score of physical appearance dimension was(16.25±2.010),the score of attitude to life dimension was(15.94±2.310),the score of social relations dimension was(10.91±1.809).Ranking the average scores of these dimensions from low to high is communications dimension(3.50±0.685),social relations dimension(3.64±0.603),family relationship dimension(3.86±0.567),attitude to life dimension(3.98±0.578),physical appearance dimension(4.06±0.503),personal qualities dimension(4.31±0.483).2 Single factor analysis of self-worth in the community elderly people: the total score of self-worth in the community elderly showed significant difference in gender,age,educational level,marital status,income,financial balance,the type of health insurance,occupation,job category,activities of daily living,whether need to living care,sleeping quality,chronic disease types,children's living conditions,social support,give social support to children,family atmosphere,family status,loneliness,health behavior,take part in group activities and continue learning(P<0.01).3 Multiple factors analysis of self-worth in the community elderly people: the main influential factors arranged from high to low of self-worth's total level were: health behavior,loneliness,educational level,give social support to children,family atmosphere,activities of daily living,family status,chronic disease types,take part in group activities,whether need to living care,gender,job category,financial balance and social support.Conclusions 1 The total score of the community elderly self-worth in Fengnan district of Tangshan was(109.22±10.704),it was in a medium level.The elderly people had a high self-evaluation on personal qualities and a low self-evaluation on communications.2 The factors associated with the total level of self-worth in community elderly were: health behavior,loneliness,educational level,give social support to children,family atmosphere,activities of daily living,family status,chronic disease types,take part in group activities,whether need to living care,gender,job category,financial balance and social support.
