| In 2001,“Guidance to Ministry of Education on Actively Promoting English Course in Primary Schools” which requires that English education should begin in grade 3 in primary school.The use of games in English teaching can improve students’ interest in learning and enhance their adaptability of English learning,at the same time,it can improve the quality of teachers’ teaching.However,there are some outstanding problems about using games which are mainly being manifested in three aspects.First,on the part of teachers,who are typically lacking in the game theories as well as the skills of designing games scientifically.They ignore all students’ ability development,they fail to evaluate the effectiveness and practicality of games in time and they use games less in teaching.Second,on the part of pupils,their purpose of using games is not clear for them,their self-control is weak when they are playing games and also their autonomy is poor.Third,on the part of the objective conditions of using games,there are a few problems in this area,such as the large amount of pupils,the lack of teaching hours and the lack of game materials.There are three aspects of this education system that lead to problems in the use of games in teaching grade three in primary schools.First,on the teachers’ area,the training of teachers in this specific area is not sufficient,the skills of the teacher’s game designing are insufficient,the game evaluation system is unreasonable and the game preparation is not enough.Second,with regard to the pupils’ area,the psychological development of the pupils during their participation in the games is different.The influence of physical and mental development of the pupils can also lead to the problems.Third,on the area of the objective conditions about the games,there are three reasons,such as the reason of the large amount of pupils,the reason of the situation of less class hours and the reason of the lack of game materials.Accordingly,in order to make game-using really become an effective teaching method in teaching English,this research suggests that we should put forward some countermeasures to solve these problems from the three aspects as follows.First,for theteachers,to improve the quality of teachers’ using of the games,to improve the design of the games scientifically,to promote the development of all the students,to perfect the game evaluation system and to improve the frequency of using games in the classroom.Second,for the pupils,the teachers help them to clarify the purpose of the use of games,to strengthen the pupils’ classroom rules and to cultivate pupils’ ability to cooperate.Third,for the using of games,about the objective conditions,it is suggest to arrange the amount of pupils scientifically,to increase the amount of hours appropriately and to use more game materials. |
