Aerobics is a widely-practiced sport.It brings together dancing,gymnastics and music to show the beauty of body movements and sports values.Cheerleading exercises(Rah-rah for short hereinafter)is originated in the United States.As a newly-developed sport,it has been developing fast and widely accepted by students due to its quality of being young,energetic,positive and modern.In this paper,the development of aerobics and rah-rah in junior high schools in Suzhou has been analyzed via relevant documents and literature,surveys and data analysis.Also,the inadequacy in the teaching and training of aerobics and Rah-rah have been explored.By targeting the limitations which restrict such development,the corresponding suggestions have been proposed to ensure a sustainable development in both aerobics and Rah-rah.Conclusions Based on the ResearchI.Status QuoParticipation in competitions: Leaders of some junior high schools in Suzhou pay insufficient attention to the daily teaching of aerobics and Rah-rah nor to the teaming-up for competitions.Moreover,some schools do not provide sufficient economic support to aerobics and Rah-rah.Teaching practice: Some schools have irrational curriculum settings concerning aerobics and Rah-rah and proceed the training and teaching in a monotonous way.The proportion of teachers whose major and background in aerobics and Rah-rah is relatively low,coupled with low level of professional training and fewer opportunities for further education.Meanwhile,students' enthusiasm in aerobics and Rah-rah is comparatively high.II.Factors Affecting the DevelopmentFactors affecting the competitions: leaders' awareness in and attention to the participation and the balance between students' academic learning and training in aerobics and Rah-rah.Factors affecting the teaching: venues and facilities and the corresponding curriculum settingsFactors concerning relevant people: the training for professional teachers and students' enthusiasm in aerobics and Rah-rah.III.Suggestions to promote the development of Aerobics and Rah-rah in Junior High Schools in SuzhouSuggestions on competitions: draw attention to Aerobics and Rah-rah and properly set the curriculums to balance students' academic learning and the learning and training in Aerobics and Rah-rah.Suggestions on teaching: inject more investment in venues and facilities,set better-organized curriculums.Suggestions on relevant people: build up the coaching staff,encourage students to be creative in the sports and set up platforms for students to demonstrate.
