A Survey Of College Students' Fragmented Reading

Fragmented reading means incomplete and intermittent reading by means of smartphones,tablets,e-readers and other electronic terminals.With the popularization of network and multimedia terminals,fragmented reading emerges as a new way of reading.It is much favored by people,especially teenagers,because of its outstanding advantages such as convenient and varied.However,it is also much concerned because it may cause health damages or thinking containments due to improper reading methods.This study is aimed at analyzing the situation of fragmented reading objectively and providing exercisable strategies for the sake of promoting values of fragmented reading.The study reviewed studies abroad and home on fragmented reading,then a self-compiled questionnaire was used to survey the fragmented reading of Soochow university students majoring in life sciences.According to the findings of the questionnaire,the author carried out further study by interviews and then proposed several effective strategies to promote the values of fragmented reading.The investigation found that,fragmented readings are common during Soochow university students majoring in life sciences.However,their readings are inclined to entertainment and their reading methods are incorrect,so the reading literacy is urgently to be improved.Students affirm the educational values of fragmented reading,but they know little about the correlation theories.Since the students have poor self-control abilities and incorrect reading methods,the educational values were not embodied in practice.Based on the results of the study,the strategies to promote the values of university students' fragmented reading are as follows:Firstly,it requires enhancing the basic literacy of reading.Students should improve reading knowledge and learn to master appropriate reading methods.Schools are supposed to strengthen students' reading consciousness and provide reading guidance.The society ought to spread the reading idea and create reading platforms.Secondly,it requires purifying network reading environment.Students should retrain themselves and distinguish between right and wrong in the network.Schools are supposed to attach importance to guidance and help to differentiate.The society ought to strengthen managements and conduct strict screenings.Thirdly,it requires developing the educational values of fragmented reading.Students should deepen reading ideas and put into practice.Schools are supposed to strengthen propagandas and directions.The society ought to optimize services and blaze new trails.
