The English homework,which serves as an important basis for the teachers to evaluate their students' performance and guide the teachers' teaching,does play an indispensable and key role in the process of English teaching and learning in Senior High Schools.Thus,the significance of homework should not be ignored.On the other hand,with the advancement of the New Curriculum Reform,great and fundamental changes have taken place in teachers' teaching concept,the curriculum design,the curriculum implementation,the curriculum evaluation and so on.However,English homework didn't get enough attention from the teachers.Thus,it is very urgent and essential to do further exploration on how to manage the English homework better.This thesis introduces the research background and the present research situation in China and in the west,sorts,analyzes and summaries the domestic and foreign research findings in terms of theory and practice.The present study mainly adopts the questionnaire and interview methods.The questionnaires of the study consist of a teacher questionnaire and a student questionnaire.The participants,including 34 English teachers and 405 students of Grade One and Two,and 4 of the teachers and 8 of the students are invited for the interview carried out shortly after the questionnaires.This thesis mainly aims to focus on exploring the answers to the following 3 questions: What are the beliefs of English teachers and students in English homework? What are the present content and form of English homework management in No.Q senior high school? What are the problems existing in managing English homework?By means of analyzing the data collected in the questionnaires and the information concluded from the interview,the author makes a summary that both teachers and students have realized the great importance of English homework,take a positive attitude to the English homework and want to take measures to fully perform the function of the English homework.The content of the English homework management mainly involves the following aspects: the distribution of English homework,the design of the English homework and the grading & the evaluation of the English homework.The form of the English homework management mainly includes the following aspects,that is,the teachers' self-management of the English homework,the students' self-management with the guidance of their teachers,the mutual cooperation management among the English teachers and the supervision management of the school layer.It summarizes the current problems existing in English homework management in Pingdu Q Senior High School through questionnaires and interviews from the selected teachers and students and aims to explore the effective ways for the English teachers to properly and fully manage the English homework so as to fully perform the functions of homework and improve English teachers' teaching abilities as well as the students' English level.Based on the related theory(the Group-dynamics theory,the input and output hypothesis and the three related theories in psychology)and the analysis of English homework and reasons of previous chapters,implications are put forward to help the English teachers manage English homework in an overall way.Some effective principles and effective strategies are put forward in the latter part of this thesis.It is expected that this thesis will offer help to Senior High school English teachers to have a far better understanding of the English homework and the management of the English homework,giving them much implementation on their improvement of homework design and carryout of the new strategies of homework management.
