Horticultural therapy,as an emerging cross-disciplinary subject of horticulture,p sychology and medicine,has attracted much attention from many industries at home a nd abroad in recent years due to its wide range of application,remarkable effect and n o side effects,and has been gradually applied to the practice of social work by domest is and overseas social workers.Horticultural therapy,as a brand new social work met hod,has important practical significance for social services for adolescents and the el derly.Its theoretical value also needs to be further explored so as to contribute to the i n-depth development of social work and provide an appropriate example for the theor etical research of contemporary social work.In recent years,under the efforts of the Hong Kong Horticultural Treatment Association,the Pearl River Delta region in China has begun to learn for the first time,and horticultural treatments are used in the practice of social service work.However,the practice of horticultural treatment by workers in the social service industry in the Mainland is still relatively limited.In general,the study of horticultural therapy in China is mainly based on the definition of concepts and the elaboration of relevant cases.A complete local culture-based research system has not yet been established.From the reality of our country,horticultural treatment can be divided into three different categories.The first is healing horticultural treatment.With the help of horticultural treatments,the client can actively or passively engage in horticultural activities such as plant cultivation and planting.In the process of close connection with plant establishment,the participants' physical and mental health has been restored,especially the mental condition has been improved.The second is social horticultural treatment.This approach is based on the guidance and assistance of horticultural therapists,building a more relaxed and entertaining horticultural atmosphere,and seeking to increase understanding and interaction among participants and enable them to generate social interaction.The third is functional horticultural treatment.People who are willing to understand and learn about horticultural treatment knowledge and skills usually participate in this activity.Horticultural treatment has also begun to be used by Chinese social workers in child social work.As an interdisciplinary discipline of agriculture and forestry and medicine,horticultural therapy has been shown to have a significant effect on the intervention of children with autism without side effects.With the help of plant cultivation,horticultural operations,and visits and maintenance of garden ecological environments,people and plants have established a platform for communication between the two parties,which in turn helps people adjust physiological,psychological and social aspects.In social work,it mainly targets at children's social work and social work for the elderly.The use of horticultural treatments has become more and more widespread,and more and more attention has been paid to domestic social workers.The horticultural treatment is more and more applied to the social work in our country.As horticultural therapy has not yet started in China,its concept,history,current situation,efficacy,technique and application in social work are unknown to most peo ple.In general,the research of horticultural therapy in China has not established a co mplete research system with local culture as the core,and the application of horticultu ral therapy in social work practice is rare.Therefore,more scholars and social worker s are needed to deeply explore horticultural therapy and build a more scientific applic ation mode.This paper reviews the origin and development of horticultural therapy bo th at home and abroad,and summarizes the characteristics and advantages of horticult ural therapy in social work.This paper introduces the Qinggeng Smart Manufacturing Park,a horticultural therapy project in P community,in which the author participated.Based on it,this paper analyzes the promotion and practice of horticultural treatment in community and study the advantages and disadvantages of the operation process an d its merits,so as to further explore the application of horticultural therapy in social w ork practice.This paper attempts to summarize the development process of horticultur al therapy and its wide application and ideas abroad,and,combining the authors own practical experience of horticultural therapy in social work,provide suggestions for its development in social work in China.Therefore,this paper has a strong practical sign ificance.
