Commenting English exam papers takes up seventy percent of the English teaching total hours.However,commenting English exam papers has been inefficient for a long time and there are few researches on this topic.This paper will study the current situation of commenting English exam papers for Grade-three senior high students,and whether as well as to what extent the autonomous,cooperative and exploratory mode in commenting English test papers can improve grade-three senior high students' academic performance.Besides,this paper will study what roles the ACE mode play in students' development.The experiment time is from September 2016 to January 2017.The research objects are Class 1 and Class 4 of Grade 3 of Haian Experimental Senior High School.There is no significant difference between two classes in terms of all subjects including English.And the amount of available time of English teaching and study of two classes is exactly the same and English of both classes are taught by me.Class 1 consisting of 43 students is designed to be a reference class,while Class 4 made up of 42 students acts as the experimental class.The experimental class adopts the ACE mode in commenting English exam papers for Grade-three senior high students,and the control class adopts the traditional teaching mode.This study employs the experimental method.The experimental tools were questionnaires,test scores and interviews.The results of the research show that currently the teacher-centered commenting mode is the mainstream,featuring language points explanations and infusion of test-taking skills.The students of experimental class,who can have autonomous,exploratory study effectively and cooperate together well with other students,scores significantly better in English exams than the students of reference class.Besides these,the ACE mode can motivate the students' enthusiasm for study to the fullest and reduce their anxiety.Therefore,the ACE mode which is practical and effective in commenting English exam papers for grade-three senior high students should be widely promoted.
