Gymnasium is one of the many forms of middle school in Germany.The reform on behalf of.the gymnasium has been debated for a long time,and the gymnasium of Germany has already experienced several schooling Reforms.After the German reunification in 1990,only the schooling period of gymnasiums in Thuringia and Saxony has been eight years,and the other federal states were nine years.Later,at the beginning of the 21st century,the German federal states has changed the German gymnasium from nine-year curriculum to eight years one after another for the sake of economy,teaching quality,European integration and other factors.However,there have been problems such as a lack of teaching content,the unharmonious relationship between teachers and students and so on since the reform,parents and teachers have complained about the burden of students.Some federal states have even appeared various anti-eight-year social organizations,calling for a referendum decision whether to return to the nine-year system.Researchers have studied the impact of the reform of the school system,but failed to draw a consistent conclusion.Social circes have different views on returning to nine-year curriculum or not.Therefore the federal states fell into a dilemma baffle and reformed again according to the actual situation.Today the educational system of the German gymnasium has been diversified,forming a coexistence of the eight-year and nine-year curriculum.This vigorous reform of the school system in Germany has been criticized by many scholars.And the reasons why the reform of the school system got in trouble are also multifaceted,including the lack of preparatory work,not completely achieving democracy,education politicalizing and so on.
