Objectives: The work ability is the foundation of laborer.With the constant deepening of primary and middle school education reforms in China,the teachers in primary and middle schools are burdening with a lot of work pressure and health problems.This phenomenon may not only affect teachers' work efficiency,but also indirectly affect students' learning and healthy growth.The aim of this study is to evaluate status and influence factors of the comprehensive work ability of primary and middle school teachers in Nanchang City,Jiangxi Province,and explore the relationship among occupational stress,sub-health status and work ability.Methods: Through the random cluster sampling,1355 first-line teachers in primary and middle schools were drawn from Nanchang City,Jiangxi Province.The Comprehensive Work Ability Index(CWAI)was used to evaluate the comprehensiveness work ability of primary and middle school teachers.The Occupational Stress Inventory Revised Edition(OSI-R)was used to assess the occupational stress of primary and middle school teachers.A self-made sub-health scale was used to measure the sub-health status of teachers.Then the present situation of comprehensive work ability of primary and middle school teachers in Nanchang City and its related influencing factors,as well as the influence of occupational stress and sub-health on comprehensive working ability of primary and middle school teachers were analyzed.Results:(1)The single factor analysis shows that the comprehensive work ability score of male teachers were higher than those of female teachers in middle school(P<0.01);The scores of comprehensive work ability in 11~14 class hours weekly group were the lowest in middle school teachers,while the second lowest was ?15 class hours weekly group and the ?10 class hours weekly group was the highest(P<0.05);The teachers in primary school who do not work as head teachers tended to have higher comprehensive work ability score than the head teachers group(P<0.01);The comprehensive work ability score of middle school teachers decreased with Family per capita income increase(P<0.05);(2)The scores of comprehensive work ability of primary and middle school teachers and their sub-item "overall evaluation of work ability","physiological status","mental status","social function status" and "work ability prediction" reduced as occupational stress levels increase(P<0.01);The scores of Occupational Role Questionnaire(ORQ)and Personal Strain Questionnaire(PSQ)were negatively correlated with comprehensive work ability(P<0.05),and the score of Personal Resources Questionnaire(PRQ)was positively correlated with comprehensive work ability(P<0.05).(3)The scores of comprehensive work ability and sub-items of Sub-health primary and middle school teachers were lower than those of the healthy ones(P<0.05).There was a negative correlation between physiological sub-health,mental sub-health,sub-health total score and comprehensive work ability(P<0.01).(4)The results of multiple linear regression analysis of comprehensive work ability in primary school teachers showed that the scores of comprehensive work ability reduced as Psychological Strain(PSY),Role Insufficiency(RI),Physical Strain(PHS),teaching age,Vocational Strain(VS)increased(P<0.05).The score of comprehensive work ability of primary school teachers increased as Rational Coping(RC)and Recreation(RE)increased(P<0.05).The results of multiple linear regression analysis of comprehensive work ability in middle school teachers showed that the comprehensive work ability of sub-health state persons was lower than that of healthy persons(P<0.01).The female teachers' comprehensive work ability score was lower than that of male teachers in middle school(P<0.01).The scores of comprehensive work ability of middle school teachers reduced as Age,Vocational Strain(VS),Physical Strain(PHS)increased(P<0.01).The score of comprehensive work ability of middle school teachers increased as Rational Coping(RC)and Recreation(RE)increased(P<0.05).Conclusion:(1)The comprehensive work ability of primary and middle school teachers in Nanchang City of Jiangxi Province was poor,and needed to be improved.(2)Head teacher or not was the main individual risk factors that affected comprehensive work ability in primary school teachers.Gender,the weekly class hours,family per capita income was the main individual risk factors that affected comprehensive work ability in middle school teachers.The intervention of individual factors of primary school teachers' comprehensive working ability should be focused on head teachers.The intervention of individual factors of middle school teachers' comprehensive working ability should be focused on female teachers,teachers with low family per capita income,and the teachers with long class hours.(3)Personal Strain Questionnaire(PSQ),Occupational Role Questionnaire(ORQ)and Sub-health(SH)could reduce the comprehensive work ability of teachers in primary and middle schools in Nanchang,while Personal Resources Questionnaire(PRQ)could increase its level.(4)The comprehensive work ability of primary and middle schools teachers could be improved by reducing teachers' Personal Strain Questionnaire(PSQ)and Occupational Role Questionnaire(ORQ),increasing their Personal Resources Questionnaire(PRQ),and improving their sub-health status.
