Research On The Impact Of Innovation Network Characteristics On Enterprise Innovation Based On Meta-Analysis

With the rapid development of knowledge economy and network economy, innovation based on knowledge has become the core power of enhancing the competitiveness and maintaining the development of enterprises. The way of enterprises innovation is also transformed from closed into open, and is achieved through cooperative networks more and more. Innovation network thus become an important environmental feature to enterprises innovation today. Studies on the resources, behavior and ability of corporate have extended its perspectives from internal to extranet network. Innovation and innovation network have become two major themes which enterprises must face. Scholars have launched rich researches around the impact of innovation network on enterprise innovation, but their findings are still with some controversy. It puzzles us about their relationship, and also causes serious problems to enterprises in dealing with their relationship.Based on this, this paper used Meta-analysis to quantitatively integrate results from 97 researches about the relationship between innovation network and enterprise innovation in a larger sample size. Firstly, this paper comprehensively analyzed the overall effect relationship between network strength, network density, network centrality and enterprise innovation respectively. Secondly this paper explored the relationship between business network centrality, technology network centrality and enterprise innovation respectively from the perspective of types of network. Thirdly, this paper derived moderators of the relationship between network centrality and enterprise innovation concerning on cultural, industrial and regional difference, and discussed the potential moderating role of these three moderators respectively. Finally, this paper also discussed the impact of firm size and firm age on corporate innovation.This paper has got some new comprehensive conclusions. At first, it finds a significant and positive relationship between network strength, network density, network centrality and enterprise innovation respectively, which confirms innovation network is conducive to enterprise innovation in a general sense. Second, it finds that with the difference of network types, the impact of network centrality on enterprise innovation is significantly different. What's more, the impact of technology network centrality is more positive than business network centrality. This suggests that with the difference of network types, the learning levels formed by participating in network collaboration, the innovative resources brought by participating in network collaboration as well as the breadth and depth of information acquired by participating in network collaboration is significantly different, and thus has different effects on enterprise innovation. Third, it finds that cultural factors, industrial factors and regional factors inference the relationship between network centrality and enterprise innovation with a stronger effect in the context of eastern culture, traditional industry and developed region. This suggests that the degree of the impact of innovation network on enterprise innovation is also affected by the context of culture, industry and region. Finally, it finds that both firm size and firm age have a positive impact on enterprise innovation, which suggests that we should pay attention to the impact of these two control variables in future researches. The study provides theoretical support for government departments in decision-making and enterprises in participating in innovation networks.
