The Research About Production And Layout Optimization Of Corn In Anhui Province

As an important grain crop in China, maize has a greater output than wheat and is only inferior to rice. Its planting area and total output ranks second in the world, behind the U.S. With the gradual improvement of people's living standard and the development of the maize industry, maize plays an increasingly important role in agricultural production and national economic development.Anhui Province is located in the hinterland of East China, and the area along Huaihe River and the northern Anhui Province are major production areas for maize. These areas have flat land, adequate lighting, interlaced lakes and abundant water, so they are endowed with advantageous natural conditions for summer maize. By 2013, Anhui Province had a maize planting area of 12,676,500 mu, a total output of 4,260,000 tons and an average yield per mu of 336 kg, becoming the crop with the fastest increase in planting area and output in this province. However, in terms of current situation, some problems still exist, such as unreasonable production layout, which need our in-depth research and thinking.Based on data collection and literature review, this paper first analyzes the maize production statuses in China and Anhui Province, compares these two kinds of statuses and summarizes major problems in the current maize production of Anhui Province.Secondly, this paper discusses the current status and changes of the provincial maize production layout from perspectives of current maize planting pattern and maize layout concentration degree. The results show that:provincial maize production center gradually shifts towards the northeast part; in terms of production scale, the northern part in northern Anhui Province experiences an increase, while the western part of this province witnesses a decrease; the maize output in Jiangsu Province and Anhui Province gradually decreases, while this output in the south Yangtze River area gradually increases. According to these changes in layout, this paper also explores the major factors that affect the changes in maize production layout in our province from ecological and economic perspectives and conducts an empirical study on the influences of these factors on maize production layout competitiveness in various regions of Anhui Province. The results suggest that production technology factor is a major influencing factor of maize layout competitiveness and that in terms of comprehensive competitiveness, Suzhou City is the most appropriate area for maize plantation.Finally, according to the comparative advantages of different crops in the same area, specific maize production layout adjustment scheme is proposed and feasible policy suggestions are offered for optimization of maize production layout in Anhui Province.
