Recently, an increasing number of companies has enter the elevator industry due to the attractiveness of its fast cash flow, and as a result, competition is becoming increasingly intensive. As an old player in this line of business, GR company has been working on the enhancement of its production efficiency to meet changing market demands, by introducing industrial engineering theory to production practices. This paper aims to improving the efficiency of a production line of elevator controller, by the application of industrial engineering methodology and system simulation. The paper is structured as follows:First, chapter 2 reviewed relevant methods and tools in the industrial engineering, as well as discrete event simulation and its applications in the improvement of line efficiency.Next, in chapter 3, the structure of elevator controller, its production process and resources were presented first. Then, the production process was analyzed in detail by using value stream and line balancing, and problems were identified by using the "5why" method. After that, simulation models were built to shed more light into the problems. Then, in chapter 4, solutions were formulated and further justified by simulation models.Finally, chapter 5 provided a summary, and pointed out the directions for further improvement.
