Analysis Of Regional Differences And Influencing Factors Of Carbon Emissions In The Bohai Rim Region

Energy is the foundation of human survival and development.Economic development depends on the consumption of energy,especially fossil fuels including coal,oil and gas.A large number of fossil energy consumption brings in the economic growth,with huge CO2 emission and other greenhouse gases.The environmental and ecological problems have become obstacles to the further development of human beings,due to more and more serious Global warming.Carbon reduction has become a global consensus.China is the biggest developing country,and the world's largest carbon emitter,which makes China's under huge pressures of international politics and environment.Therefore,the carbon emission reduction is of great urgency for China.China's carbon emissions problem has become the common interest of domestic and foreign scholars and governments.Bohai sea ring area is an important economic region in northern China,and its economic growth has brought a lot of CO2 emissions.The study on carbon emissions rules and influence factors in this area will help to make reasonable reduction measures.The carbon emissions controlling from the perspective of regional will promote the realization of the national carbon emissions reduction targets and ensure China's sustainable development.Based on the literature review and summary of basic theory,we calculated carbon emissions,per capita carbon emissions and carbon emission intensity of five provinces(Beijing,Tianjin,Hebei,Liaoning and Shandong)in the Bohai sea ring area during2000-2012 using the IPCC recommended emission coefficient method,and compared the differences of carbon emissions between five provinces,analyzes the change rule of carbon emissions.On the basis of analysis of the carbon emissions,we performed index decomposition analysis on the influence factors of carbon emissions in the Bohai sea ring area using the logarithmic mean divisia index(LMDI)method,and get four main factors:population scale effect,economic development effect,energy intensity effect and energy composition effect.We also performed the comparative analysis of the four factors on carbon emissions between the five provinces.According to the results of this study,we also made the countermeasures and suggestions of carbon reduction in the Bohai sea ring area.(1)The carbon emissions showed a rapid increase trend in the Bohai sea ring area during2000 to 2012.The average annual growth rate of carbon emission is 9.37% during 2000-2012.The carbon emission of Shandong,Hebei and Liaoning provinces accounted for 88.06% of total carbon emission in the Bohai sea ring area.The per capita carbon emission is increasing,while the carbon emission intensity is decreasing in the Bohai sea ring area.(2)The population scale effect provided a relatively small positive contribution to the carbon emissions among the four major effecting factors of carbon emissions in the Bohai searing area from 2000 to 2012,and this factor is relatively stable.Economic development effect provided the largest contribution of carbon emissions increase in the Bohai sea ring area.Energy consumption intensity is the biggest factor of inhibition on carbon emissions increase in Bohai sea ring area.The energy composition effect showed the positive and negative fluctuations on carbon emissions in the Bohai sea ring area,while,the inhibition effect on carbon emissions of this factor was increasingly obvious after 2010.(3)There are large differences of the four major factors on carbon emissions between Beijing,Tianjin,Hebei,Liaoning and Shandong provinces from 2000 to 2012.Population scale made a positive effect on carbon emission among these five provinces,but,the contribution of this factor on carbon emission is relatively small in Liaoning province,as a result of slower population growth.The economic development effect played the greatest positive effect on the increase of the of carbon emissions in these five provinces.The energy intensity effect greatly inhibited the carbon emissions of the five provinces.The obvious inhibition of carbon emissions were found in Hebei,Shandong and Liaoning provinces.The energy composition effect on the inhibition of carbon emissions were fluctuation between these five provinces.This factor increased the carbon emission in Hebei and Shandong provinces,while suppressed carbon emissions in Beijing,Tianjin and Liaoning provinces.
