The Yangtze River Delta region is the focus of China's manufacturing industry. However,as its manufacturing industry continues to gather and develop, the environmental pollution has become increasingly severe.Based on this, this paper focuses on the analysis of the spatial correlation between manufacturing agglomeration and environmental pollution in Shanghai,Zhejiang,Anhui and Jiangsu in the Yangtze River Delta, and establishes a spatial econometric model to explore the environmental effects caused by manufacturing agglomeration. This paper selects 41 cities above the prefecture level in the Yangtze River Delta as research objects.Based on the theoretical analysis, this paper makes a time-space analysis of the status quo of manufacturing agglomeration and environmental pollution.Among them, the manufacturing agglomeration index is constructed from the entropy method and geographical density;the environmental pollution index is measured in three types of pollutants, namely industrial wastewater emissions, industrial sulfur dioxide emissions and industrial smoke dust emissions, with a method of geographical concentration measurement. The analysis of the status quo shows that the gathering in the Yangtze River Delta is in line with the “central-periphery” model. With Shanghai as the center, the focus of manufacturing agglomeration and environmental pollution transfers following the direction of “Shanghai-Hefei”,and detailed transfer process includes “two wings”,from south Jiangsu to north Jiangsu and from north Zhejiang to southwest Zhejiang, and the central route of “Shanghai-Hefei” from east to center.Grounded on the analysis of the status quo,the spatial correlation of manufacturing agglomeration and various environmental pollutants in 41 cities of the Yangtze River Delta is studied with the global Moran index, local Moran index and Moran scatter plot. Finally, the spatial econometric model is introduced, and the spatial lag model is used to empirically study the impact of manufacturing agglomeration on the environment.Spatial statistical analysis results show that there is a very significant spatial correlation between manufacturing agglomeration and environmental pollution in the Yangtze River Delta region;the concentration level of manufacturing industries and the concentration of environmental pollution are closely related to the surrounding cities. Moreover, because of industry heterogeneity, different industries produce different pollutants, and the same measures may create diametrically opposite results on the atmospheric environment and the water environment. Therefore, this discovery may be the basis for policy formulation.
