This thesis is based on the perspective of tectonic.It analyzes material,crafts,craftsmanship,construction method,and their cultural meanings of Chuandou wooden structural buildings in contemporary context of rural China.This research also examines possibilities of modem adaptations of chuandou in the climate,environmental,regional,cultural,and economic constraints.This thesis consists of four parts:the first part is introduction,which introduces theoretical and practical meanings of tectonic,regionalism,and vernacular architecture in rural China;the second part examines "tectonic" as a tool for analyzing vernacular architecture,proposes "tectonic chain" as design strategy,and analyzes dialectics between tradition and modernity of chuandou as"tectonic";the third part examines features,significance and potential of chuandou,including "da cai xiao yong" and "jian hua gou zao";the fourth part analyzes the "open system" and Xie Yinjun's "Rural Construction" through the tectonic perspective of chuandou;the fifth part examines limitations of chuandou in the present and its possible adapatations;the sixth part is a case study in Longtan village,Wuchuan County,Guizhou Province. |
