Environmentally Livable Study In Wuzhong District, Suzhou City

With the rapid development of urbanization and industrialization, the contradiction among the resource, environment, economic development and population growth can not be ignored, especially the city traffic congestion,environmental pollution, ecological deterioration, employment pressure, housing shortage and a series of environmental and social problems. Under the current background, for the real sustainable development, livable urban construction has become the main direction of urban development, which is not only the way of building a resource-saving and environment-friendly society, but also be the key to achieve the aspirations of residents live and work in peace. Therefore, the meaning of urban livable construction evaluation is self-evident.Based on the relevant theoretical and empirical research of experts and scholars at home and abroad, this paper takes Wuzhong District of Suzhou as the research area.With reference to previous research results, combined with the characteristics of livable city construction in Wuzhong District, this paper constructs the evaluation index system of livability from the natural environment, social economy and public service. Using the geographical census and relevant statistical data along with the spatial analysis in geographic information system and accessibility technology to accomplish objective evaluation of Wuzhong District city.The result shows the different livable space partition under the category of environment, economy and public service respectively, within which, the region has a large spatial variation. Moreover, the town of Jinting, Dongshan and Guangfu achieve a higher degree of pleasant natural environment. A high degree of social and economic activity is concentrated in the northern region of Mudu Town, Suyuan Street, Longxi street, Long Bridge Street and part of Luzhi town in Wuzhong District.Public service is convenient at most area, in addition to the town of Jinting and Dongshan. At the same time, according to different preferences, this paper sets different weights respectively to achieve the livable space type zoning under different preferences. And livable appropriate degree in different areas has also been changed.In order to reflect the local residents’ intuitionistic perception and evaluation of the construction of livable city in Wuzhong District, this paper investigates the satisfaction of the residents in Wuzhong District through the questionnaire and field visit. The questionnaire mainly focuses on urban environment, social and economic development, social security, convenience of public service. The survey results show that residents’ satisfaction on the construction of livable Wuzhong District is better.While the difference among natural environment, urban environment, safety,economic development,convenience of life and other aspects is small. However, the satisfaction score, in the natural environment and living convenience is the highest, on the contrary, the lowest score is the urban environment, especially environmental pollution problems such as water pollution, waste pollution, noise pollution and air pollution, which is the most dissatisfied aspect.We can sum up the main problems in the construction of livable city in Wuzhong district together with objective and subjective evaluation. First, the urban environment is the key problem affecting the livable areas of Wuzhong District; Second, the overall economic strength is not strong; Third, traffic safety and patency should be improved;Fourth, the residence restrictions assumes slight influence on accessing to school. To solve the above problems, the corresponding countermeasures is put forward in order to promote the construction of livable city in Wuzhong District and to create a more happiness for residents.
