Under the leadership of Hanban, Since the Chinese teaching in foreign countries stated in1987, Chinese teaching has registered rapid development in various fields and big strides havebeen made in expanding Chinese learning in foreign countries.This paper, based on extensive materials, aims at gerneralizing the development of Chineseteaching in each aspects since1990s, particularly in recent years.First, this paper will elerate on the time span, define Chinese teaching in foreign countries,provide a metric to classify its contents. In the second part, its main part, this paper introducesthe Chinese teaching in foreign contries, covering major aspects as Confucious institutes,Chinese teacher, Chinese language proficiency tests and overseas students. In this part, thecurrent state, history and the impacts of each aspact are touched upon. And systematic studies onConfucious institute, MTCSOL, Chinese teaching material and foreign students in China areincluded.The autor thinks that the Chinese teaching in foreign countries has enter a phase ofcomphrehensive, orderly and rapid development.Since1990s, the Chinese teaching in foreign countries has took on three chararteristics:1. ithas maintained a all-round deveopment;2. it has been modernized;3. it emphasizes more oninternational exchange and boasts a global view.Each aspacts of Chinese teaching in foreign countries plays its own role and enjoys its ownfeatures, the whole of which contributes jointly to the development of Chinese teaching inforeign countries.
