This paper discusses the application of Chinese puzzles in the teaching of Chinese characters to foreign countries from three aspects: the overview of Chinese puzzles,the theoretical knowledge of the application of Chinese puzzles in the teaching of Chinese characters to foreign countries,and the application of Chinese puzzles in the teaching of Chinese characters to foreign countries.In the first part,the definition and function of Chinese puzzles are introduced.In addition,the types of Chinese puzzles are introduced,such as: synthesis,inclusion,addition,disjunction,and comprehension.Then,this paper discusses the theoretical knowledge related to the application of Chinese puzzles in teaching Chinese characters to foreign countries from the perspectives of psychology and second language acquisition theory.Finally,the most important part of this paper—the application of Chinese puzzles in teaching Chinese characters to foreign countries.This section focuses on Chinese puzzles compilation and a design for Chinese puzzles teaching.This part first discusses the word selection principle of the Chinese puzzles,namely the principle of commonality.In the Chinese puzzles compilation section,the selected characters are 764 Chinese characters appearing simultaneously in the three word lists of the 800 a-level words in the Chinese language proficiency and vocabulary outline,first-level reading character list and basic Chinese character list.Then there is the principle of Chinese puzzles.While ensuring the popularity of Chinese puzzles,they should also be adapted to the teaching of Chinese characters.Before the Chinese puzzles compilation,readers can search 764 Chinese characters in pinyin.Then,on the basis of the compilation of 764 Chinese character puzzles,five kinds of Chinese character puzzles suitable for foreign language teaching were selected.Finally,there is the instructional design part of the puzzle.I designed the crossword game as a teaching activity,it can be used in the process of new words teaching and after new words teaching.Teachers can choose one or two teaching activities according to the teaching content.After the compilation and teaching design of Chinese puzzles,this paper puts forward some Suggestions on the application of Chinese puzzles teaching in Chinese character teaching,that is,teaching basic knowledge of Chinese puzzles,theoretical knowledge of Chinese characters and comparative teaching of Chinese puzzles.At the end of the article,this paper briefly discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the application of Chinese puzzles in teaching Chinese characters to foreign countries.It not only enriches the teaching form of Chinese characters for foreign students,let the students know the content of this cultural activity.However,in the specific application process,due to the improper selection of Chinese puzzles or the game form is not vivid enough compared with other games,it may not achieve the desired teaching effect.
