Zhang Baogao is a silla people who is active from the ending of the 20 s to the beginning of the 40 s in the 9th century.He is famous in the history because of the“Tang Dynasty,Silla and Japan trade circle”he created.Both Tang Dynasty and Silla history books gave Zhang Baogao high appraisal and praised him the righteousness extremely,because he eliminated the pirate groups in the Yellow Sea areas.But is the historical fact really same as the historical books?When we investigated the real reason why Zhang Baogao built Qinghai town,we will find that the fundamental intention of the built of Qinghai town isn't like the content which the history book said.In the 20 s of the 9th century,Silla especially the west coast has been suffered from the frequent natural disaster and the society produced lots of slaves and the Tang Dynasty had a great of demand to the slaves who came from foreign country at the same time.But Li Zhengji who occupied the Shandong Peninsula ignored the slave trade which spread all over the territory.So the main part of the trade between the Tang Dynasty and Silla is the slave trade.The main channel between Silla and the Tang Dynasty has changed from the BoHai Sea to the Yellow Sea.So the slave trade was concentrated on the area between the Shandong Peninsula and the middle ground of the west coast in Silla,such as the Daebudo and the estuary of Han River.If the reason why Zhang Baogao built Qinghai town is to eliminate the pirate groups,he should choose the area of the Daebudo around not the JiangDao surrounded by a great number of different sizes of the islands.Compared with the Daebudo,JiangDao is not a good place to eliminate the pirate groups but a favorable place to carry out the trade between the Tang Dynasty,Silla and Japan.When those pirate groups has been almost eliminated,the“Zhang Baogao caravan”appeared in the Tang Dynasty,Silla and Japan.Zhang Baogao created the“Tang Dynasty,Silla and Japan trade circle”and mastered the maritime trade between three countries in the East Asia.When JinYouzheng failed to battle for the throne,Zhang Baogao seized the favorable opportunity to enter the central government.Although Zhang Baogao failed to enter the central government finally,we can inference the real reason why Zhang Baogaobuilt Qinghai town is that he mastered the maritime trade between the Tang Dynasty,Silla and Japan for entering the central government.Eliminating the pirate groups is just a political means to achieve the purpose.
