Numerical words have rational meanings and rhetorical meanings which cause many difficulty for foreign student to acquire them.Based on the theory of numerical word,this paper studies the lexical,rational and rhetorical meanings of numerical words by means of investigation and inductive analysis.Through the comparison and analysis the lexical outline and intensive reading textbook,the advantages and disadvantages of the two are summarized.The advantages of the teaching materials are to expand the deficiency of the outline,to pay attention to the repetition of digital words and to examine the various parts of speech,but the teaching materials have the defects such as the decentralized arrangement.The lexical outline also have some problems such as the errors in word formation,the collection of sentence patterns,outmoded words and the length of revised cycle.This paper use questionnaire survey to investigate the acquisition of numerical words by students at different levels.Aiming at the characteristics,key and difficult points and the errors in acquisition about numerical words,the paper accordingly proposes to rich the related knowledge of teaching material,to perfect after-school special training,to consolidate teachers' numerical word knowledge and to encourage teachers to self-reflection,and so on.In addition,we suggest that the teaching strategies need to combined with cultural teaching,hierarchical teaching and interesting teaching.All of these are aimed to promote the scientific and sound development of the teaching of numerical words.
