This paper defined traditional moral stories as those moral stories created before the establishment of People's Republic of China in 1949,including ancient Chinese moral stories and revolutionary Chinese moral stories.These vivid and interesting moral stories are one of the most important parts which composed primary school moral educational textbooks.They make the textbooks more colorful and help to inherit and develop the Chinese traditional virtue in the young children.Therefore,how can we configure the story in order to make them conform to the level of the cognitive development and moral development of primary students? It is very important and significant to study the disposition of traditional moral stories in primary school moral textbooks in order to improve the students' learning effect and further promote the development of students' morality.After combing related literature,we have defined the concept of traditional moral stories.We also summarize the moral value and function of traditional moral stories as well as the disposition principles of stories in primary school moral textbooks.What's more,we also make content analysis on three aspects which are the choice,grade distribution and presentation on forty three traditional moral stories in the textbooks of Beijing Normal University Press.In this way,we can find the disposition situation and problem of these stories and seek approaches to their improvement.The study found that the advantages of the disposition of traditional moral stories in Morality and Life and Morality and Society published by Beijing Normal University are: First of all,they fully gave expression to the core values of Chinese socialism.Secondly,they fitted the related requirements of the criterion for curriculum.Thirdly,they are in appropriate difficulty in general which can conform to the development of students cognition.Fourthly,the stories present in a variety of ways along with their proportion of images and texts suit students age development.Fifthly,there are more positive examples in the stories which make effect of moral education much remarkable.Although traditional moral stories has a lot of advantages,there are also some aspects which need to be improved.On the choices of the stories:Firstly,the choice of some stories don't match the unit topic.Secondly,some stories are difficult which make them hard for students to understand.Thirdly,some of the stories are slightly lack of the value of “making the past serves the present”.On thegrade distribution of the stories: Firstly,it can change the status of traditional moral stories' absence in each grade.Secondly,several grades can add some traditional stories including important moral items.Thirdly,it can make the grade distribution of various stories come closer to the mental rhythm of the students' understanding skill.Fourthly,some of the stories recur in the same way in different grades.On the presentation of the stories: Firstly,some of the stories are lack of a description of the plot.Secondly,some illustrations in middle grades are hard to understand,while some images and texts are loose in their disposition in high grades.Thirdly,part of stories can add some related extensive learning resources.According to the above shortage,suggestions on the choices of traditional moral stories: Firstly,choosing suitable stories according to the topic.Secondly,to coordinate the contradictory relationships between the moral guidance and students' life.Thirdly,choosing stories with correct value orientation.Suggestions on grade distribution of traditional moral stories: Firstly,traditional moral stories should be involved in every grade throughout the whole primary school stage.Secondly,to fill up some traditional stories including important moral items that each grade has lost,and to show the related moral items in the normal development of students' virtue.Thirdly,Myths and legends should be put into junior grades,while historical and celebrity stories into senior grades.Fourthly,we should avoid repetition of these traditional moral stories in different grades.Suggestions on the presentation of traditional moral stories: Firstly,plot descriptions should be added in some stories of senior grades.Secondly,carefully designing stories for junior grades,comic form is the best choice.Thirdly,some illustrations should be improved in middle and senior grades to make the images and texts closely distributed.Fourthly,some learning resources should be replenished properly.
