"Education is the foundation in the coming century, and teachers are the foundation of education." In the process of educational development, teachers are the key driving forces, who enjoy extremely important status. In modern times, the appeal for the emphasis on student-centered teaching is growing increasingly stronger. Meanwhile, the focus on teachers' leading role cannot be ignored since the success of the new curriculum reform consists in teachers, so does the improvement of the overall quality of national education. Therefore, under the premise of the new curriculum reform, it is necessary to study the development of teachers' teaching ability. In the information age, with the rapid development of the network, our learning, work and life have undergone changes in different extent. In this present stage, the contradiction between the supply and demand for education is noticeable, mainly manifested in the lack of teacher resources and educational software but a soaring number of learners annually. Thus, some weak schools appear, which will bring negative effects to the balanced development of compulsory education and further cause serious problems in education and society. With a wide range of appeal from students, teachers, parents and even the entire society for "managing every school in the stage of compulsory education and providing every student with good education", transformation to weak schools should be highly focused by government and education department at all levels.Distance teaching and research are applied in the large district to achieve interactions and communications between excellent schools and weak schools in the same area and further elevate the teaching level of teachers in weak schools and facilitate their rapid growth, which enables elementary education to have a balanced development. Currently, distance teaching and research in the large district is conducted taking schools as individual units, with few organized collective activities. It is necessary to explore the methods of distance teaching and research and improve teachers' teaching ability through distance teaching and research so as to heighten the quality of weak schools and achieve balanced development of elementary education.Taking the university district of Shaanxi Normal University Affiliated High School as a case, this study aims to learn the implementation of its distance teaching and research and expects to improve the teaching ability of teachers in weak schools through distance teaching and research. This paper adopts several research methods including literature, observation, interviews and text analysis to collect materials and draws a conclusion by organizing, analyzing and inducting these materials:Activities of distance teaching and research, such as distance lesson preparation and online discussion, play the most obvious role in the improvement of knowledge reserve, teaching design and teaching implementation; the improvement of teachers' teaching ability can be positively affected by teachers in weak schools applying the resources provided by the platform of distance teaching and research and participating in the activities of distance teaching and research, etc; expert guidance and self-reflection can also provide a clear explanation for the improvement of teaching ability.This paper is divided into five chapters. Chapter One introduces the research background, questions, significance, purposes, content, methods and ideas and makes an induction of the studies conducted by scholars at home and abroad with the method of literature by focusing on the analysis of three layers of information:the professional development approaches for teachers, information technology promoting teachers' professional development and distance teaching and research contributing to teachers' professional development. Chapter Two defines the concept of the key words:distance teaching and research, teachers of weak schools and teaching ability; it also explains how the studying objects are selected and the process of this study and material processing. Chapter Three makes an exploration of distance teaching and research in the university district of Shaanxi Normal University Affiliated High School, stating about the establishment of the environment for distance teaching and research and summarizing the forms of distance teaching and research that have been adopted. It aims to discover the advantages and disadvantages through investigation and analysis. Chapter Four makes an further exploration of distance teaching and research in the large district of Shaanxi Normal University Affiliated High School, putting forward some advice for improvement and implementing it and examining the effects of distance teaching and research. It analyzes the influences that distance teaching and research has on the teaching ability of teachers in weak schools from the following five aspects: knowledge reserve, teaching design and teaching implementation, communication and cooperation and reflections and development, to further promote the development of the teaching ability of teachers in weak schools. Chapter Five draws conclusions and makes expectations. It elaborates the results of this study, summarizes how distance teaching and research promotes the improvement of teachers' teaching ability and the deficiencies in a few aspects such as theoretical analysis, the scope of studying objects and the factors influencing teachers' teaching ability, and makes expectations on the future development of distance teaching and research.
