Science and technology are playing important role in the 21st century,and are getting more and more significant in the development of society and economy.Presently all nations are aware of the earnest need in scientific talents,so the cultivation of the young in terms of scientific qualities seems to stand out.Extracurricular scientific activities are effective approaches to cultivate the young scientific qualities.The young period is a crucial development time for anyone,so to carry out extracurricular scientific activities may help to train them take to science,equip them with spirit,initiative and abilities of creation.Therefore,the study of what has been done in the process of carrying out extracurricular scientific activities among the young possesses realistic meanings.Taking primary school students as subject,this study majors in what has been carried out in primary school's extracurricular scientific activities,covering the 1404 primary school students and some scientific teachers in 16 primary schools in the Dalian city proper.Methodologies include literature research,questionnaire,interview,mathematical statistics.The study shows the general status of primary school students' carrying out extracurricular scientific activities goes well,yet it has some shortcomings,namely,teaching faculty involved in scientific activities are not enough,full time science teachers are needed,the number of the students involved in science activities still need to be enlarged,time spent in extracurricular scientific activities is limited.And the questionnaire and interview demonstrate the reasons of the above-mentioned problems are:lack of systematic science teacher training,no enough attention from superior education authority to scientific activities,not enough chances and room for scientific activities or enough fund,single-oriented objective of school cultivation.In connection with the problems of the primary school students' extracurricular scientific activities,three pieces of advice and suggestions are followed:1.localize the extracurricular scientific activities,which means to integrate scientific activities and science class,school activities and community resources;2.Make scientific teachers full time,which means to cultivate professional scientific teachers with specific training and peer coaching through establishing evaluation system of scientific teachers;3.Systemize scientific activities to ensure the regular carrying out of them,which means to establish evaluation system of scientific activities,safety regulation,and to adopt class hour system.
