Research On The Cultural Competence Of Social Workers

Today's society is facing the hit from modernization,Industrialization and urbanization,which caused the diversity of culture in the society interaction.As a long history and multi-national country,many kinds of cultures such as regional culture,national culture,retirement culture and educational culture are the most important components for the background of culture in the social work.Culture diversity was be considered as the essential part of social work so that the cultural competence is the KPI of the social work major during the social service of the 21 st century.Social workers should know the differences between themselves and the client when they provide the service,in order to make the service more efficiency.In other words,cultural competence should be the necessary requirement to the social worker.This research totally collected 212 sets of questionnaire feedback via the internet,which the questionnaire design refer to the self-evaluation tool by Lum 2010,page 34.Using the 36 items Likert scale format to test the cultural competence level of social worker,and also could cover the culture observation,knowledge achievement and skill development,then put these three dimensions as foundation and organize as two steps.The research aim to understand the cultural competence of social worker in Shanghai and analysis the relationship between them and culture observation,knowledge achievement,skill development and find the key factors which could impact the cultural competence of social worker.This research illustrated that there are three factors which could impact the cultural competence of social worker in Shanghai,whether they have had been educated background as social work;whether they have the certification of social work and whether they have the study experience to join related courses training about social work.In turn,the one who has high level culture ability,the one who surely have high educational background,the higher certification level and have plenty training experience of social work.
