Research On The Development Characteristics And Related Issues Of Chinese Folk Women's NGOs In The Past 30 Years

Since the1980s and the reform and opening up,the Western gender theory and the feminism came into China.Studies on contemporary Chinese women movement attracted our attention and gave rise to the reflection of women problems,enabling them to found the folk women organization——Chinese Folk Women NGO.Its appearance and development is the most important part in contemporary Chinese women movement.The research on its characteristics,dilemma and achievements is conducive to complement and improve it.The theory guides the practice and serves the reality.The ultimate goal of studies on it is to help us sum up the experience,explore a variety of ways and channels to solve the problems of the current women problems and offer a kind of enlightenment in the gender mainstreaming and social gender harmony."Chinese Folk Women NGO" is a non-governmental organization,which was established in the 1980s,and focused on studies on women problems or serving the women.The background of the reform and opening up provides partial public space for folk women NGO.The appearance of many women problems created the condition for the foundation of folk women NGO.The awakening of women self-consciousness laid a solid foundation for folk women NGO in thought.The three aspects caused the appearance of Chinese Folk Women NGO.The thesis comprehensively analyses the development of Chinese Folk Women NGO in different times since the reform and opening up.It can be divide into three phases as follows.The first phase is the local growth period of the Chinese Folk Women NGO from the 1980s to 1993.The first NGOs appeared,which was the crystallization of volunteers' idealism and enthusiasm.Leaders were a group of elite women with garden sensitivity.The initial focus of the organization was on the investigation of social reality.However,the NGOs were faced with the basic economic and legal predicaments.The second stage was the exchange period between China and the West from 1993 to 2000.Features of this period were the frequent exchange,a large sum of foreign capital injection,the projects of social hot spots and the active sought of multicooperation,and the promotion of women rights in the projects with the action research method.Meanwhile,the Chinese Folk Women NGO made some achievements in the progress of the development of the organization and the volunteers in this period.Since 2000,Chinese Folk Women NGO has made organizational and strategic plans and actively sought domestic capital;and has gradually improved the system of internal governance and actively promoted the construction of NGO.The focus of the organization has extended to the field of civil society.In the progress of governance,there appeared the difficult of human resources and the construction of credibility.The paper is based on the main case of Shaanxi Research Association for Women and Family.It intends to explain that Chinese Folk Women NGO,has its own characteristics and dilemma in the historical progress within about 30 years.It has made great contributions to the contemporary women movement,the promotion of social gender equality and women development.Meanwhile,the author also makes some bold predictions on the relation between the future of the Chinese Folk Women NGO and the women federation,the future mode and the future way.
