"Professor learning" is one of the important contents of modern university governance.In the history of Chinese education,Jiang Menglin put forward the idea of "Professor learning" in the period of the Republic of China,established the modern university idea of "Professor learning",and carried out practice at national Peking University and National Southwest United University,good results have been achieved.Therefore,it is of great significance and reference value to explore Jiang Menglin's thought and practice of "Professor learning" and to understand the essence and experience of "Professor learning",which will be of great significance to how to carry out university governance,the distribution of internal power in universities and the construction of a modern university system.First of all,this paper analyzes the origin of Jiang Menglin's thought of "Professor learning".We found that Jiang Menglin's thought of "Professor learning" was influenced not only by Chinese traditional culture,but also by American pragmatism and progressive philosophy,modern German higher education thought and the educational trend of thought in the Republic of China.It was the organic combination of Chinese educational culture tradition and western modern university concept.From a historical point of view,the core of Jiang Menglin's thought of "Professor learning " is to weak the professors' power to participate in administrative affairs and to concentrate on academic research.The essence of his thought is to preserve a certain free space for academic independence in the context of the pursuit of administrative efficiency in the modern university,so as to better maintain academic freedom and academic independence.Therefore,through the analysis of the foundation,essence,organization and system guarantee of Jiang Menglin's thought of "Professor learning",this paper further explains the essence and historical significance of Jiang Menglin's thought of "Professor learning" by combining the practice of the management of the Peking University and the Southwest United University.The author thinks that Jiang Menglin's thought and practice of "Professor learning" not only opened up a new paradigm of Chinese university management,but also promoted the process of "sinicization" and "modernization" of higher education,and left valuable historical experience and wealth of thought for the modern governance of the University.His thought has a positive reference value andenlightening significance for us to think about the distribution and balance of academic power,administrative power and other power in the University.
