In this paper we investigate Chinese renewable and solar energy policy along with investment from 2006 to 2016.Through this,we examine the growth of solar energy in China.Due to limited data on solar energy investment,we formulate a method of estimating investment data based on installed capacity. While this method is not significantly precise,it is beneficial to our investigation as it enables us to approximate trends in solar investment for years with no reported data.Due to the large amount of state-owned grid and energy enterprises in China,we see more state investment than private investment in solar energy.Through our compiled data,we observe that Chinese investment in solar energy heavily favors PV technology.Solar power maintained a very small amount of new installed capacity, experiencing positive growth since 2014 whereas coal has undergone negative growth.Annual improvements by the Chinese government to their incentives and policies demonstrate both strong ideological and fiscal sponsorship for sustainable development. This phenomenon is notable,as it symbolizes a government-driven movement of renewable energy investment in China.Through this investigation,we have obtained clarity concerning obstacles inhibiting sustainable development and have suggested future improvements for renewable and solar energy policy that China can make to overcome complications and achieve sustainable energy security.
