Fishery refers to fishing, aquaculture fish and other aquatic animals and aquatic plants in order to obtain the aquatic product material production departments, including freshwater fishery and marine fisheries. Early primitive humans have begun to use aquatic products by gathering and fishing for a living. Fish, shellfish and other aquatic products are important to the survival of food. In the Tang Dynasty, the fishery has become an important economic sector affecting the national economy and the people’s livelihood. Tang Dynasty, with vast territory, consist of several regions with different natural and cultural conditions. As a result, the development of fisheries in each region is different. According to historical materials, this paper conduct a preliminary study on the fishery geography in Tang Dynasty which divided into the Yangtze River basin, the Pearl River basin, the Yellow River basin and the north areas. This paper investigates the fishery development in these areas respectively and analyzes several factors affecting the development of fishery. This paper can be divided into five chapters:The first chapter attempts to reveal the overall natural conditions and social background of the development of fishery in Tang Dynasty and mainly analyze the water environment and fishery management policy of Tang Dynasty. Tang’s water environment conditions is superior and conducive to the development of fishery. The government set up a series of institutions and officials to fisheries management, and implemented a series of protection of fishery resources policy and statute. It turns out to protect the fishery resources objectively.The second chapter research the Yangtze River basin’s fisheries in the Tang dynasty. The Yangtze river basin, with the most superior region water environment, has rich and varied marine resources. There are high-quality products as local tribute. In Yangtze river basin, the level of fisheries production is also high. There are a variety of fishing gear and fishing method used in marine-lives-catching. Some experience of fishing aquaculture was sun up at this time. The specialization level is getting higher. The Yangtze river aquatic product market is quite active in the Tang Dynasty. The diversification of aquatic product processing method provides the foundation and conditions for mass of aquatic products into the market, the flourishing of the aquatic product market is also promoted the emergence and development of aquatic products processing way.The third chapter discuss the fishery of Pearl River basin in Tang Dynasty. The Pearl river basin with the well-developed river system, is adjacent to the sea. In Tang Dynasty it has a certain degree of development. The fishery mainly emphasizes on the marine fishery. the technology for fishery production has made some progress than the previous generation in fish breeding and catching. As for the mode of production, marine fishery mainly stress catching, while the freshwater fishery focuses on both catching and breeding. The fishery of Pearl River basin of have obvious trend of specialization and market.The fourth chapter studies the fishery of the Yellow River basin and the north areas. The Yellow River basin have different regional fisheries development level. The middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River region has quite big shortage of water resource at present while its water environment was superior in Tang Dynasty. There was a large distribution of lakes, the appropriate development of fishery. Existing tribute aquatic famous brand as the soil, and aquatic product market sale of all kinds of aquatic products, commercialization trend is obvious. Northeast, northwest fishery was close to the fishery has a certain degree of development.The fifth chapter is conclusion. To summarize the regional fishery development level in the Tang dynasty, and further analysis from two aspects of natural conditions and social environment factors, which affect the level of fishery development.At present academia for fisheries research history period, more concentrated on Ming and Qing. Based on the existing literature on research on the fishery partition in the Tang dynasty, to the Tang dynasty when the overall situation of the fisheries development and regional characteristics, we hope to geography and history of tang dynasty agriculture fishery geography research.
