With the booming of Chinese manufacturing sector, the front-line workers are suffering severe work stress, which has negative impact on workers' mental health.Workers' metal health has become an important concern of many Chinese manufacturers. The study investigated the front-line workers of a leading manufacturer with 300,000 workers in China using questionnaires. The relevant data described the condition of work stress and mental health, and work stress was analyzed on a perspective of professional tasks and personal resources. The study explored the interrelationship of professional tasks, personal resources and mental health.Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90)was revised according to the relevant data on the specific workers.First, factor analysis approaches were used to test the factor structure of SCL-90 in this sample.Second,SCL-90 was preliminarily revised by item response theory. And then, exploratory factor analysis was used to further revise SCL-90 and explore the factor structure of the revised scale. Finally, the confirmatory factor analysis was used to test the structure validity of the revised scale. And the reliability and validity of the revised scale were good. The revised scale can be applied to other similar companies. After that, the hypothesises were proposed and tested about the relationship between work stress and mental health on a perspective of professional tasks and personal resources. The test of normality and single-dimension showed that it was suitable to use partial least squares structural equation model in this research. Then, the relationship between work stress and mental health was explored by correlation analysis and stepwise regression analysis. And personal resources as the mediating role was tested by partial least squares structural equation model(PLE-SEM).Finally,some suggestions were put forward according to the results of data analysis. The results indicated that the revised eleven-factor scale was suitable for front-line workers. And the correlation analysis showed a negative relationship between the indicators of mental health and professional tasks(except responsibility),while personal resources and mental health were significantly positive correlation. The mediation analysis implied that the personal resources was the fully mediated between professional tasks and mental health.Therefore,front-line workers' mental health can be improved by increasing their personal resources without changing professional tasks.
