Korean automobile industry started around in the middle of 1950's,has a history of 60 years.Despite its short history compared to other advanced countries,Korean automobile industry has shown a remarkable development over the years.In just 60 years,the numbers of registered Korean automobile has exceeded twenty million,categorized as the world fifth manufacturer.Automobile industry related employment has gotten one million eight hundred thousand,exceeded 15%of the whole export(2016year),take up double size of the whole trade surplus.It's been long years since Korean automobile industry has become the primary engine of growth.But recently,the rapid growth of Korean car industry faced difficulties.According to the report of Korean automobile industry association,2016 year Korean automobile production went down to sixth in the world for the first time ever.And its forecasted that 2017 year,the production of Korean domestic car will drop to 14hundred 8 thousand,which is 4.0%decrease of last year.And the amount of export will be 415 hundred million,which is only 0.5%increase of last year.With this background,this thesis analyzes Korean automobile industry's international competitiveness.By examining Korean automobile industry's status and role in the global economics and global market's environmental change,figures out global automobile's overall trends and the measures that has to be considered in order for Korean automobile industry to get the competitive edge.And this thesis draws Korean automobile industry's rational and objective competence through mathematical data comparison with other countries like German,Japan and China by using market share,export similarity index,trade specification index.In overall,the thesis is composed of 6 parts.The first chapter is the introduction of the thesis;the second chapter is mainly about theories that the subject of this thesis is based on as a background;the third chapter is about Korean automobile industry,which divides into domestic and international sector.the main focus of domestic sector deals with Korean automobile industry's economic efficiency and an automobile industry as an overall industrial effect.International sector focuses on Korean automobile industry's global status.Lastly,it classifies international sector by competition structure,demand,trading to inspect global environmental changes.The forth chapter analyzes Korean automobile industry's international competitiveness by calculating Export Similarity Index,Trade Specification Index,Revealed Comparative Advantage.The fifth chapter talks about the current situation and the future trend of the Korean automobile industries overseas production,and analyzes the connection between international competitiveness and the production of the overseas production.And the last Chapter is summary of the whole contents and shows the challenges and suggestions for the problems that Korean automobile industry faces at the same time.
