Present Situation Of Water Resources Development And Utilization In Wuwei Area And Countermeasures For Agricultural Development

Water resources are the basis of agricultural,social and economic development.For Wuwei region where is very dry and only has irrigation agriculture,agricultural development more and more depended on water resources.The construction,improvement and development of water conservancy projects can improve the bearing capacity of water resources and provide solid foundation for agricultural development.One of the important methods to promote the sustainable development of agriculture is expanding irrigation area if agricultural water source is enough and guarantee.Wuwei region has very limited water resources,especially,Shiyang river basin which has huge population,very limited water resources and fragile ecological environment.With the development of industrialization and urbanization in Wuwei region,water resources have not been protected which lead to serious water shortage.The uneven distribution,imbalance between supplies and demands,the huge and increasing consumption of agriculture and industry of water resources bring great challenge to local people living and ecological environment.In this difficult situation,analysis of the problems about water resources utilization using modern and scientific theory is necessary for comprehensive and efficient utilization of limited water resources.One of the most important solutions is development of efficient water-saving agriculture which can save more water resources for industries and ecological environment.Thus,explore and apply of efficient and sustainable water resources utilization is most important task for sustainable development of both economy and agriculture in Wuwei region.Based on above situation,the present studies in-depth analyze the water resources variations in recent years during the progress of rapid development of water conservancy construction and agricultural structure adjustment in Wuwei region.The main conclusions are as follows:1.The development and utilization of water resources in Wuwei region is not balanced,the water resources in inland river basin well developed with high utilization efficiency whereas water resources in yellow river basin has very low utilization efficiency.The traditional agriculture with high water consumption is conflicted with the situation of water resources shortage which suggests the agriculture mode change is necessary.The water conservancy construction is far from enough and the projects about high efficient utilization of water resources need many improvements.2.Based on the situation of agricultural development and the variations and utilization of water resources in Wuwei region,the strategies including change of water resources usage thought,reinforce of water usage management,improve of water conservation awareness,implementation of interbasin water transfer projects,increase of investment in water conservancy projects and change of agricultural production mode are propose to promote the the coordinated development of water conservancy and agriculture.In summary,the present study proposed strategies for agricultural development and water resources utilization in Wuwei region.The first strategy is to change the traditional agricultural water usage mode with high efficient water saving technology,widely extend water-saving irrigation agriculture,and improve the construction and management of agricultural water conservancy projects and the utilization efficiency of water resources.The second strategy is to change the mode of agricultural production and development,promote the main production mode of “facilities agriculture and animal husbandry and fruit industry” to achieve sustainable development of agriculture.One more strategy is to optimize the allocation of water resources,strengthen public law and awareness of water-saving,gradually change the way of water usage and achieve the protection and effective utilization of water resources.
