China has a long history of culture.During the long river of time our ancestors left rich treasure of culture for us,and folk culture is one of them.Folk culture represents the regional culture of a region,and it has a certain symbolic meaning.In folk culture,the Chinese zodiac is often heard and closely related to us.Without no doubt the Chinese zodiac not only occupies a key position in traditional Chinese culture,but also plays an important role in folk culture.Through reading related literature,making market research and other research methods,the paper first describes the origin of the subject,analyzes related research status at home and abroad,and states the purpose,significance and innovative points of this research.Second,it analyzes the origin and the implied meaning of Chinese zodiac,summarizes the technique of expression and forms of Chinese zodiac in traditional culture,and dissects its impact on contemporary society,which provides important value for exploring the application and reference of Chinese zodiac in the clothing field.Then,the dragon pattern in costume design is analyzed in detail,its evolution process on clothing and the change of modeling features are elaborated,and application value of dragon pattern is analyzed.This paper makes a detailed study and analysis of the application of the twelve animal signs in the clothing of children and adults,and explains the application status of Chinese zodiac in the field of costume design.Finally,using the combination of tradition Chinese zodiac and modern custom design as the breakthrough point,by listing many clothing design cases it illustrates the significance of application of Chinese zodiac in costume design.For the innovation and development of costume design,new ideas and suggestions are put forward,which endows the costume design with new era characteristics.
