Research On Evolution And Reconstruction Of Public Space In Traditional Villages In Xiangxi Based On Place Spirit

The public space of traditional villages is the space for people’s public interactions.It expresses the traditional feature of traditional villages,reflects the social formation and the interpersonal relationship,and bears the historic culture and the social organizational relations of changes and developments of villages.Due to the rapid development of urbanization in recent years,economic structures,social relations,production methods and life styles as well as public spatial forms of traditional villages have changed in different degrees.Xiangxi villages’ public space started decaying and became less energetic during this period,which causes conflicts between villager’s living demands and requirements of protections and developments of the village.Therefore,it stands out especially important that how to reconstruct the public space of traditional villages in Xiangxi to revitalize and develop them.This thesis,taking the public space of traditional villages in Xiangxi region as its object of research,uses the theory of place spirit to analyze the material elements’characteristics of the village public space and the spiritual element derived from the form it presented during the changing process and its influence factor to explore the principles and strategies of its reconstruction.The subject content of this thesis can be divided into five chapters,and contents are summarized as follows:Chapter one mainly expounds the research background as well as the purpose and meaning of this thesis,determines contents and objects of research,and introduces the general situation of domestic and international developments and puts forward the study methods and the frame of thesis.The second chapter describes the main contents of villages’ public spaces,including their definition,classification,research content,and influence factors.It also introduces new ideas regarding the development of village’s public spaces inspired by place spirits theories.Through the analysis of those theories,the corresponding logical application between place spirits and village’s public spaces is obtained.Chapter three and chapter four are core chapters of this theis.Chapter three summarizes the material characteristics,sensation influence,syntagmatic relation,and order of its natural elements and human elements by analyzing the physical elements of public spaces of traditional villages in Xiangxi.Chapter four explains periodical morphological characteristics and evolutions factors of Xiangxi traditional villages5 public spaces through the analysis of its evolution process,and tries to apply cooperative system to analyze the dynamic mechanism of its evolution.Chapter five is the important chapter of this paper.At the beginning,the principles regarding reconstructions of Xiangxi villages’ public spaces are concluded based on the results of previous studies.Next,it develops strategies of reconstructing Xiangxi villages’ public spaces in current stage according to the present situation faced and sustainable development goals.And finally,it concludes the research achievements of this thesis,puts forward innovation points,shortcomings and expectations of the future of the publie space of traditional villages.
