In recent years,China's colleges and universities have expanded their enrollments year after year, the discipline construction continues to develop, and teaching reforms continue to deepen. Therefore, colleges and universities need to expand and improve the venue and space for teaching activities.Faced with this situation, universities around the country have built new teaching buildings and opened up new campuses, which undoubtedly aggravated the financial burden on universities. At the same time, the remnants of the old industry have become an upsurge. The main direction of the transformation of old industrial relics in China today is the commercial park or exhibition building with commercial nature. It is unavoidable that there have been some phenomena of over-engineering and over-expectation and surplus caused by over-pursuing commercial interests. Therefore, the remains of the old industry still need to explore in a more diversified and non-commercial direction, and the construction of colleges and universities can also seek a more appropriate and economical path. There is a certain degree of cross-complementarity between the two. This article mainly focuses on the direction of the transformation of old industrial relics for universities. In our country's colleges and universities, especially the engineering colleges, because of their teaching and production needs, some old industrial relics that have lost the production function still remain on the campus and can be used as the first choice for the school to expand teaching space. In addition to the use of old industrial relics on campus, the old industrial factory area in the city can also be transformed into a new university campus. The use of the transformation of the legacy of the old industry to solve the needs of university teaching space expansion has many advantages such as timeliness,economy,low-carbonity,and humanity. The dissertation uses adaptive regeneration theory as the basic theory for the transformation of old industrial buildings into college buildings, and emphasizes the significance of "adaptive regeneration" to architecture. Not only must the transformation meet the needs of the current society and universities, but it must also give them the ability to flexibly adjust their own constituent elements to adapt to future changes in demand. This article analyzes the representative cases of the transformation of several old industrial relics at home and abroad into university buildings, including the transformation of old single-factory buildings to the transformation of university building monoliths and the transformation of old industrial plants into new university campuses.According to the generality from the individual to the whole, from the microscopic to the macroscopic, the four common principles of adaptive regeneration are summed up,including the principles of originality, extensibility, flexibility and variability, and ecological principles.Based on this, the paper proposes to transform the structure design, skin, interior space, external environment and ecological strategy of old industrial buildings into adaptive regeneration design strategies for college buildings. These principles and strategies can provide references and references for the relocation of old industrial relics in this direction.
