A Comparative Study Of The Rural Settlement Patterns Between China And Western Countries In The Process Of Urbanization

Nowadays,our society is in the process of rapid development of urbanization.This change is not only brought significant changes for the city,but also have an incomparable impact on Chinese traditional rural settlement.The main reasons for the evolution of rural settlements caused by urbanization are urban land expansion,population migration among cities and villages,industrial structure and function changes,infrastructure construction and the change of people's living concept.“Decision of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Some Major Issues Concerning Comprehensively Deepening the Reform”,adopted at the third plenary session of the 18 th CPC Central Committee,proposed that we should promote the urbanization and the construction of new villages and towns coordinately,which has point out the definite direction for the urban construction in China.Firstly,in this thesis,several groups of western rural settlement cases were selected as examples to decipher their history of development.With the comparison of the different rural development history in western countries and in China,the strategies and approaches adopted in the renovation of the western countries and villages was summarized,and their inspiration to the process of urbanization in Chinese rural settlement was discussed.Secondly,the evolution process of villages and towns was analyzed in details in this thesis.The development history and current situation of designing,development and construction of the villages and towns in China and Western countries were compared and analyzed.By focusing on the basic morphological characteristics,evolution process and development type,the historical limitations in the process of development was find out.The strategies for the inheritance,protection and development of rural civilization was suggested.The semi-rural settlements planning design and reconstruction method in the transformation period,as well as the "New Village and Town Complex" theory was also elaborated.Base on the guiding theory of “We want both golden,silver hills and clean water,green mountains as well”,this thesis provided the relevant suggestions to explore a new way to protect Chinese village settlement with the preservation of traditional local characteristics.
