In the whole process of traffic management and control, the study of travel behavior plays a very important role.It is a necessary basic work for urban traffic planning, management and construction to study the individual travel behavior of urban residents. At present,Xi'an has entered a period of rapid development of motorization, the growth of car travel is increasing rapidly, the status of road traffic congestion is becoming more and more serious, many sections of Xi'an have appeared peak period ahead of schedule and extended, even frequent congestion and other phenomena. Therefore,it is necessary to study the characteristics of residents' travel law, travel psychology and travel decision-making process. In the whole process of urban residents' travel, short distance travel accounts for a considerable proportion, and there are various ways of travel.Because of the short travel time and the general low comfort of residents, the short-distance car travel mode can be transferred to non-motor vehicles and public transport. Therefore, this article takes short-distance travel mode choice behavior as the research object.Taking Xi'an as an example,it analyses the law and characteristics of short-distance travel of urban residents, and the change of share rate of short-distance travel mode under different circumstances. It is of great significance to guide the change of travel mode from car to public transport and to optimize the traffic structure.Firstly, this paper gives a preliminary overview of the research methods, research objectives, research models and the development of data survey on travel behavior at home and abroad. This paper expounds the basic meaning of travel behavior, and indicates that travel behavior is a process that combines the physical and psychological activities of the traveler itself. Its purpose is to meet the specific travel needs, and further analyses the form of travel behavior and its influence process. Then it introduces some theoretical foundations of travel behavior analysis, and takes Xi'an as an example, classifies and compares several traffic modes that residents may use for short-distance travel.Subsequently, the concept of latent variables in travel behavior is proposed, and the causal relationship between latent variables and significant variables,Seven potential variables that need to be specifically analyzed in this model are identified: economy, comfort, service environment, punctuality, convenience, security and travel preference.Latent variables and their corresponding observational variables is described by using the method of structural equation model(SEM).Then,by using the maximum utility theory, the optimal utility function of travel mode selection of Logit model is improved and the latent variables are constructed.SEM-Logit integration model with explicit variables.Subsequently,in order to obtain some basic data samples, through a series of design survey schemes and questionnaires, the RP/SP comprehensive survey method was used to conduct a random trip survey of short-distance residents in Xi'an City. Then, the basic information of travelers and the data obtained from the survey were compared and counted, and the short-distance travel mode choice behavior of residents in Xi'an City was also analyzed. The characteristics are simply analyzed, summarized and some residents' travel rules are obtained. Finally, based on the sample data of the survey, the short-distance travel mode selection behavior of residents in Xi'an was further studied by using the established SEM-Logit travel mode selection model, and the fitting results of the SEM-Logit model were tested. The final results show that the model constructed in this paper has a good explanatory effect. Finally, the short-distance travel mode selection behavior of residents in Xi'an is analyzed and studied, and the characteristics of the group's travel mode selection are further clarified on the basis of the original conclusions.
