Travel mode choice research is the premise and basis of urban traffic planning & policy formulation, whether relly know about urban traveler choice behavior is corret concerns the reasonability and scientificity of urban traffic planning policy, guidenlines and construction. At the same time, since our country reforms and opens up, the pace of urban construction is accelerating, prompting a large number of rural surplus labor into the cities. They participate in urban modernization, and gradually become a non-negligble part of the urban population, but because of their difference on social status, economic conditions and occupational distribution compared with ordinary urban residents, their travel mode choice behavior is not entirely consistent with the ordinary urban residents. In order to better meet the travel needs of different groups in the construction and planning of urban traffic, it is necessary to study the travel characteristics and travel mode choice behavior of migrant workers.First of all, the paper review summarizes domestic and foreign research and development of travel behavior on research methods, survey data and research object. Then, the basis connotation of travel is expounded, and the travel is defined as a organic combination of physical and psychological process, which to meet the specific needs of individual travel. The travel behavior formation process mode and travel response process are explained in the paper. And the basic theories of travel behavior analysis are introduced, travel modes are classified and comparised according to different travel standards, the subjective psychological attributes of attitude awareness is introduced to constitute the factors set of influencing travel choice behavior, together with traditional personal, family, travel attributes. These content lay foundation for the flowing construction of travel mode choice model for migrant workers and travel characteristics analysis in the paper.Secondly, structural equation modeling(SEM) and multinomial logit model are linked by introducing the latent variable attribute of attitudeperception, a SEM-Logit travel mode discrete choice model is established, which are capable of containing both traditional objective factors of individual, family, trip and subjective factors of attitude perception. This model in the paper improve the defect of only considering objective factors, but without subjective factors in the past models.Thirdly, in order to obtain basis data sample, the survey plan and survey content were designed, and RP survey methods are used in the randomized survey of travel for migrant workers in Xi’an. Then, we did statistical analysis and comparison of both basic information survey data, the migrant worker travel mode choice behavior is also analyzed, some travel law is summed up in the end.Finally, with the sample data, the travel mode choice behavior of migrant workers and ordinary city residents in Xi’an was studied by using the established SEM-Logit model, and the results of model fitting was tested in the paper. The result shows that the model has good explanatory. At last, the paper explained the choose reason, and further clarified the travel mode choice characteristics of migrant workers.
