The Big port of Saint-Petersburg is considered as an important gateway between the land of Russia and the Baltic Sea which used for trade and as a center for finance and industry.Industries in the seaport includes:oil and gas trade,electronics industries,and shipbuilding.Saint-Petersburg port authority is a state body which has the responsibility for planning,organizing and developing the seaport.With the start of work in 2011 of the new Sea port of Saint-Petersburg began to discuss proposals on possible directions of its further development.The seaport of Saint-Petersburg has started a development program for the infrastructure in the seaport started from 2015.The development strategy includes adding several facilities to the seaport which includes a terminal with capacity for two million tons of ferrous metals each year and multi-purpose handling facilities with capacity for three million tons per year.This development strategy has come with some weaknesses.With this in mind,it becomes clear that further investigation for the development strategies adopted in Saint-Petersburg seaport has become ever more important the current research aims to evaluate the current development strategies adopted in St.Petersburg seaport.The research also aims to propose a sustainable development strategy which takes into account the interrelated dimensions of the economic,structural,political,and environmental nature of the seaport industry in St.Petersburg.We address these two main objectives from qualitative and quantitative perspectives by describing the current development strategy status using SWOT analysis and investigating the dynamic demand for sea container transportation in St.Petersburg,and by making a valid forecasting for the future demand for container transportation.
