As a unique social public area, college campus is closely related to the safety of college teachers and students. With the development of society and the increasing demand for resource sharing, the opening of campuses has begun to attract attention, and what followed is a concern about the conflict and contradiction between its openness and security. Therefore,it becomes very important to collect basic data on the environmental safety of college campuses and explore open design methods that meet safety requirements. This study is based on the evaluation of the safety of outdoor spaces on college campuses through the design principles in CPTED.Screening CPTED principles applicable to the safety evaluation of the Campus Environment by systematically sorting out the environmental and safety related theories represented by the CPTED.For that, the characteristics of the campus environment are summarized, and the concepts and related strategies of each principle are further deepened Interpretation.Screening evaluation indicators from different scales of the overall campus environment and partial environment, and constructing an evaluation system. With the help of spatial analysis methods such as Arc GIS and spatial syntax, conduct actual research and evaluation.Eventually we found: Active commercial stores have positive significance for surveillance.Surveillance of safety hazards is concentrated around the building and remote roads. When the spatial classification is unclear, the architectural layout and location are unreasonable, the accessibility of the environment becomes poor.Natural surveillance has a more indicative role in the three principles of territorial, natural surveillance, and access control.Site activity has a greater impact on site safety.Special event spaces such as stadiums should be introduced into the venue,or regular events should be planned to attract fixed activity users(such as skating, morning exercises,etc.).The fragmentation of the site, especially too many narrow spaces will reduce the security of the site. Finally,on the basis of the actual evaluation experience of the two research objects, this study summarizes the principles and strategies of outdoor space environmental safety design of college campus under the guidance of CPTED theory, from the three aspects of territorial, surveillance and access control and the five levels of integrity, clarity, visibility, activity, and controllability. The study combines the advantages and disadvantages of the overall environmental assessment method and the partical environmental assessment method, putting forward a more operational and practical guidance method and process of environmental safety assessment of campus outdoor space. We hope that we can make contributions to theoptimization and improvement of the safety quality of outdoor space on college campuses.
